About the role
The Machinist II position at TSI is designed to support production operations or job shop machining for engineering prototypes. This role requires minimal technical supervision and involves performing machining and fitting tasks on various parts, tools, and machines.
Responsibilities
- Set-up, adjust, operate, and program a variety of machines including manual mills, turret lathes, and CNC mills and CNC lathes.
- Follow work practices geared towards continuous quality improvement and best practices.
- Assignment planning, layout, set up, operating, and making tool adjustments for various types of manual, numerically controlled, and computerized machine shop equipment.
- Works from complex blueprints, process sheets, and sketches to perform production tasks, which may include cutting and shaping metal to precision dimensions.
- Checks and inspects machining operations against specified tolerances. Fits and assembles where necessary.
- Identify and repair machine malfunctions.
- Work as an effective team member in the department.
- Participate in cross-training within the department.
- Serve as a technical resource for less experienced machinists in the department.
- Work in conjunction with the Production Supervisor (Machine Shop) to establish annual individual goals and objectives in alignment with department goals.
- Minimal supervision to set up and operate all available machine tools to perform various machine operations on parts made from various materials.
- Assist in the maintenance of a clean and safe work area and shop at all times.
- Follow all safety guidelines and report unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
- 2-year graduate of vocational tech machinist and/or 3+ years of experience preferred.
- Minimum three years of Machinist experience in a manufacturing environment, specifically in a high technology environment.
- Ability to run CNC and manual machines and perform basic programming as needed.
- Ability to apply acquired job skills and company policies and procedures to complete assigned tasks.
- Working knowledge of all materials.
- Ability to follow established procedures on routine work; require instructions only on new assignments.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in order to give and receive instructions, work with engineers and technicians, and train other Machinists as needed.
- Ability to work with a team to meet the department objectives and goals.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Persuasion and negotiation skills.
- Ability to plan, organize, and work successfully on simultaneous projects.
- Ability to employ sound judgment with little or no supervision.
- Demonstrates personal and professional integrity as a role model to less experienced Machinists.
