Machinist I (Onsite)

About the role

The Machinist I position plays a crucial role in the manufacturing process at BD, contributing to the development and repair of various machine parts. This role involves setting up and operating machine shop equipment, performing basic set-ups, and assisting with preventive maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties of Machine shop to include milling, grinding, CNC, welding, etc...
  • Study specifications and plans sequence of operations to repair or reproduce parts as required.
  • Absorb preventive maintenance on equipment as specified or as required to ensure a smooth operation.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points to layout stock for machining.
  • Setup and operate lathes, milling machines, shapers, grinders, drill presses and other machining equipment to machine parts to specifications, and verify conformance of parts to specifications using measuring instruments.
  • Position and secure parts on surface plate or worktable with such devices as vises, V-blocks and plates and use hand tools to fit and assemble parts to assemblies or mechanisms.
  • Verify dimensions and alignment with measuring instruments, such as micrometers, height gauges and gauge blocks.
  • Perform simple welding and soldering as needed under supervision.
  • Diagnose production equipment problems and resolve either by adjusting or repairing.
  • Observe all safety and environmental procedures and QSR (Quality Safety Regulations).
  • Comply with all applicable specifications, plant policies, and Departmental Procedures.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Two years machining experience (Required)
  • Three years of machining experience (Preferred)

Additional Responsibilities

  • General mechanical knowledge of equipment to diagnose production equipment problems and resolve either by adjusting or repairing.
  • Observes all safety and environmental procedures and QSR (Quality Safety Regulations).
  • Complies with all applicable specifications, plant policies, and Departmental Procedures.
