About the Role

Join ELLWOOD Crankshaft Group (ECG), a global leader in the design, forging, machining, and manufacturing of large, complex crankshafts and critical metal components. Our products support rail, marine, energy, oil and gas, power generation, and industrial equipment. As a Machinist I at our Hermitage, PA location, you'll tackle complex challenges, build products few companies can make, and contribute to keeping freight moving, ships operating, energy flowing, and critical equipment running.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position that may require overtime, weekends, and rotating shifts as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform all work in line with safety rules.
• Set up and operate one or more grinding machines on a production basis to grind the surface of manufacturing parts to specification, with little or no supervision.
• Set up equipment according to specifications on product blueprints.
• Start and stop machinery.
• Verify conformance of work to specification using preset gauges and micrometers.
• Replace and dress grinding wheels.
• Adjust controls to vary the depth of cut, grinding speed, and rate of feed.
• Accurately and timely report all production and quality-related data and records.
• Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping responsibilities for equipment and work area.
• Maintain an accurate count of production pieces.
• Support all productivity and process-related goals.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Prior machining ability.
• Mechanical ability.
• Previous manual grinding experience or equivalent education.
• Experience with micrometers, calipers, and/or other precision measurement tools.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Three or more years of machining experience preferred but not required.
• Strong analytical skills and demonstrated problem-solving abilities.
• Familiar with general computer applications.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Results-oriented with a strong desire to succeed.
• Solid verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient at operating forklifts, overhead cranes, and other heavy equipment.
• Previous experience in a heavy manufacturing environment.
• Ability to work a variety of work schedules and overtime as needed.

• Regularly (50%–80% of the time): Standing, walking, talking, hearing, reaching, grasping, finger manipulation, feeling/touching, hand/arm repetitive motion, and close visual acuity (including color, depth perception, and field of vision).
• Frequently (25%–50% of the time): Stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, lifting (up to 70 pounds), and bending/squatting.
• Occasionally (0%–25% of the time): Material handling up to 120 pounds (floor lifts, shoulder lifts, overhead lifts), climbing, balancing, crawling, and foot repetitive motion.
• Rarely (0%–10% of the time): Travel (by car and/or air).

Visual inspection tasks involve identifying small defects such as rust, burrs, or debris using visual inspection devices close to the eye or at a distance. Ability to see lifting equipment placement when loading, unloading, or moving parts is required.
