The Gill Corporation is one of the world's largest manufacturers of honeycomb, high-performance floor panels, cargo compartment liners, and original equipment for passenger and freighter aircraft. The company also produces reinforced plastics, including interior sandwich panels for aircraft galleys and bulkheads, honeycomb core, and related products.

About the role

Under general supervision of an experienced Machinist 2, Sr CNC Operator, or Supervisor, sets up and operates a Broaching machine to cut and form metal work pieces to specifications. Reports to the Production Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews setup sheet and specifications to determine setup procedure, machining sequence, and dimensions of finished work piece.
  • Using machine controls, retrieves programs from the appropriate shared drive and work order.
  • Manipulates controls and enters commands to properly shear (cut) and form part to specification.
  • Properly positions material during shear and forming process as specified in setup instructions.
  • Inspects work piece for conformance to specifications and notifies supervisor of any discrepancies.
  • Works with materials including titanium, aluminum, or as provided.
  • Checks cutting tools for wear; tools are replaced or re-worked as necessary to support production.
  • Assists other operators as necessary to ensure work flow is consistent and quality requirements are maintained.
  • Other essential duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalency.
  • Up to 4 years of related experience.
  • Understanding of drawings and ASME Y14.5 geometric tolerances.
  • Understanding of CNC machine programming concepts.
  • Ability to satisfactorily use computer-based software tools.
  • Experience shearing/forming metallic materials (Titanium and aluminum).
  • English reading and verbal communication skills sufficient to read, understand, and communicate company operating procedures and policies.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Math proficiency equal to or greater than required for the position.
  • Availability to work the shift specified by the position and flexibility for potential overtime on weekends/holidays and temporary shift changes (1st, 2nd, 3rd).

Preferred Skills

  • Machine shop experience with brake and forming operations.
  • Hands-on experience using hand and power tools (drills, grinders, saws).
  • Experience operating milling machines, including end mills and rotating multi-point cutters.
  • Experience using measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers.
