Machinist 2nd Shift
Primary Objective
Perform machining operations in accordance with MTS Machine Shop procedures and work instructions. Utilize documentation and skills to provide parts and assemblies to internal and external customers that meet quality and schedule requirements.
Major Areas of Accountability
- Performs set-ups in a timely and efficient manner.
- Utilizes preventative maintenance as required or apparent.
- Maintains a clean and well-organized work area.
Demonstrate Understanding and Ability
- Interpret MTS machining prints and meet print requirements.
- Machine Shop routing system.
- Inspect and verify dimensions to required accuracy.
Perform Machining Operations
- Provide constructive feedback to area supervisor on quality issues, trends and workload.
- Exhibit willingness to help resolve issues regarding schedules and priorities.
- Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to work overtime and to meet demands of other workstations.
- Interact and communicate effectively with all colleagues, including supervisors.
- Display ability to work as a part of team.
- Operate and maintain equipment in a safe manner.
- Identify safety hazards and involve appropriate parties to resolve.
- Initiate creative and/or innovative ideas and demonstrate willingness to implement them.
Cross Training Expectations
- Machinists are expected to learn multiple disciplines within the machine shop, including but not limited to: CNC Lathe and Mill, Cylindrical Grinding, Surface Grinding and Manual Mill and Lathe.
Minimum Qualifications
- Two-year certification from college or trade school and four years applicable experience in a machine shop environment, or eight years' experience in a machine shop environment.
Minimum Knowledge and Skills
- Must understand and apply advanced machining knowledge.
- Machining tolerances and measuring equipment, tooling selection, machine setup and operations.
- Common machining symbols on MTS prints.
- Understanding of material characteristics and proper machining techniques.
- Ability to edit CNC G-Code and M-Code through conversational software and CAD/CAM software for CNC operators or ability to run multiple manual machines.
- Ability to manage multiple machine offsets and tool offsets for CNC operators.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Compensation Information
$30.00 - $36.00 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Plus $1.10 per hour shift differential for 2nd shift.
