Machinist 2 (Fri - Sun / Days)

About the role

Graco manufactures and markets premium equipment to move, measure, control, dispense and spray a wide variety of fluid and powder materials. We pump peanut butter into jars, oil into cars, glue soles to shoes, apply coatings to pills, spray paint on vehicles and texture on walls. This CNC operator role is part of a team that safely produces parts meeting Graco quality requirements at the lowest cost in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

• Set up, adjust and operate a variety of CNC machines within a department.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area.
• Adjust tools and replace as necessary.
• Follow set-up procedures and recommend improvements.
• Read and understand layouts, job packets and blueprints for the parts being run (includes Geometric Tolerancing).
• Provide accurate inventory counts.
• Collect and use SPC data, which may involve use of comparator, CMM, Trimos, gages and related test instruments.
• Assist in process development with engineers, quality technicians and supervisors.
• Perform necessary side operations during machine cycle time as required.
• Perform daily maintenance of machines as required and keep supervisor informed of necessary maintenance beyond operator-assigned maintenance.
• Work as a team member to aid all shifts and support personnel to operate to departmental standards including quality goals.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Schedule

Hours: 4:00 am – 4:00 pm, Friday through Sunday. Work 36 hours and are paid for 40 hours.

Essential Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Pass Graco skill-based written and performance test to move from Level 1 to Level 2.
• Completion of a 2-year certified machining program and 2 years of CNC machining experience, or a minimum of 5 years of CNC machining experience (milling for milling openings, turning for turning openings).
• Knowledgeable in PC Skills for Manufacturing, Measurement Skills for Manufacturing, Math for Machinists, Blueprint Reading for Machinists, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing III, SPC Theory, SPC Software or equivalent.
• Demonstrated ability to read and understand CNC programs and operational layouts as required.
• Understand tooling requirements to set up and operate machines in the department, including pre-setting of tools.
• Demonstrated ability to perform a sequence of operations under minimum supervision and consistently maintain the performance level set for quality and quantity.
• Understanding of safety rules and regulations to prevent unsafe set-ups, operations, or acts which might cause injury to self, others, or the environment.

Desirable Qualifications

• Completion of an approved CNC programming course.
• Trade school training on CNC machines.
• Experience in operation of 5-axis machines.

Pay

The base pay range for this position is $33.05 – $34.85 per hour, exclusive of fringe benefits or other compensation. Final base hourly rate will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, competencies, education, and/or experience, as well as internal equity of current employees.
