About the role
The Machining Engineer II supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of machining and manufacturing processes. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams including operations, technicians, sourcing, and project management to drive safety, quality, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership
- Supports new process introduction, process qualification, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve machining and manufacturing issues
- Analyzes process data, metrics, and performance indicators to identify inefficiencies and implement solutions
- Develops, updates, and maintains machining process plans (MPPs), work instructions, and technical documentation
- Supports integration of new tooling, equipment, and technologies to improve efficiency and reduce cost
- Experience with CNC machine programming using MasterCAM
- Pairs with design engineering and supply chain to support design for manufacturability (DFM)
- Ensures compliance with engineering standards, best practices, and quality requirements
- Participates in root cause analysis and corrective action activities for nonconformances
- Supports continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, lead time, and cost reduction
- Provides technical guidance and support to shop floor personnel as needed
- Drives a shop-centric mindset by maintaining strong engagement with machining operations
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline required or 7+ years of related experience
- Experience in gas turbine or heavy manufacturing environments preferred
- 3+ years of experience in a machining or manufacturing environment
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and process documentation
- Ability to write technical reports, work instructions, and standard operating procedures
- Solid understanding of machining processes (e.g., CNC machining, tooling, fixturing, GD&T preferred)
- Ability to analyze data and apply basic statistical and mathematical concepts to problem-solving
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently on moderately complex issues
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with engineering systems (e.g., CAD, ERP/MRP systems preferred)
- Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and functions
- Experience with process optimization, automation, or lean manufacturing
