About the role
The Engineer I, Automation - Machine Vision Specialist role is an opportunity to join a successful, growing, employee-owned automation company. This role focuses on designing and commissioning inspection solutions that enhance quality and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Design, program, and implement machine vision inspection systems and automation controls to improve quality, efficiency, and safety.
- Apply engineering principles and advanced vision technologies to develop inspection solutions that reduce manual intervention and support robust production performance.
- Collaborate with project managers, controls engineers, and production teams to ensure seamless integration of vision systems, compliance with standards, and customer satisfaction.
- Provide support for project execution, working closely with the Pieper team and customers.
- Follow best practices and the "Pieper Automation Way" in design, programming, and project documentation.
- Support feasibility studies and trials to validate machine vision inspection concepts before full project execution.
- Troubleshoot and solve technical problems related to image quality, device connectivity, and inspection performance.
Requirements
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Up to two years of experience in industrial automation and/or training preferred.
- Positive safety attitude and personal integrity.
- Communication skills and technical writing skills.
- Knowledge of Automation Design process, including reading and comprehending automation equipment manuals and electrical schematics.
- Ability to troubleshoot controls hardware/wiring and provide solutions.
- Desire to learn and grow personally and professionally.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of Vision System Development, including hardware selection, design, optics, and lighting geometry.
- Experience with Vision Software Programming, including Vision Tools, component communications, and data exchange.
- Understanding of PLC Programming and Operator Interface Programming.
- Knowledge of Motion Control, including VFDs, servo drives, and robotics.
- Experience with Machine Safety and IT Networks.
- Desire to complete personal development plans for self.
Skills

- Ability to work independently and fulfill job requirements in a timely manner.
- Proficiency in Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, CoPilot, etc.
