Machine Vision Engineer
About the role
This opportunity sits within a global advanced manufacturing organization with a major research and manufacturing presence in the Corning, NY area. The site pairs active product development with high volume manufacturing, giving engineers the chance to build measurement and inspection technology that directly supports next generation products. This role is based onsite in Corning, NY; candidates outside the area are welcome to apply and would relocate at their own expense.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and test measurement systems that combine optical metrology and machine vision
- Develop image processing algorithms for feature extraction, classification, and metrology
- Train and deploy machine learning models to improve measurement system performance
- Partner with cross-functional teams across development, quality, IT, and operations to define requirements and integrate systems into manufacturing workflows
- Transition new technology from early-stage development into production-ready solutions
- Create and maintain documentation including system specifications, operating procedures, and manuals
- Train engineering, maintenance, and operations staff on the use and upkeep of deployed systems
- Troubleshoot and optimize systems onsite and remotely using data analysis and performance metrics
- Occasionally travel domestically and internationally for deployment and support
Requirements
- Bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree in optical engineering, computer science, physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field
- 7+ years hands-on experience with optical systems, imaging hardware, and measurement instruments
- Strong programming skills in Python and/or C#
- Experience with machine vision algorithms such as blob analysis, edge detection, morphology, and feature extraction
- Experience training machine learning models, including CNNs, for measurement and classification tasks
- Familiarity with MATLAB for data retrieval, plotting, and analysis
- Expertise in 3D optical metrology techniques, including lasers and physical optics
- Experience with motion control systems and imaging platforms
- Knowledge of statistical analysis and process improvement methods such as design of experiments
- Experience with database management or high-performance computing systems
- Background supporting manufacturing operations with metrology and inspection systems

Benefits
In compliance with New York pay transparency law, the anticipated pay range for this position is $94.00 to $100.71 per hour. Actual pay may vary based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
