Essential Duties of the Machine Shop Supervisor
- Lead, supervise, and develop machining department personnel, including foremen and hourly employees.
- Manage hiring, training, performance management, and disciplinary actions in coordination with Human Resources.
- Plan, organize, and direct machining operations to ensure compliance with engineering, quality, and production requirements.
- Establish departmental priorities to meet production schedules, quality standards, and safety requirements.
- Ensure efficient utilization of manpower, equipment, tooling, and floor space to optimize productivity and cost performance.
- Oversee maintenance and availability of production tooling, equipment, and supplies.
- Cookordinate with Production Control to align machining activities with production schedules and resolve workflow issues.
- Work closely with Engineering to improve manufacturing methods, processes, and machining capabilities.
- Collaborate with Quality to investigate nonconformances, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Cookordinate with Maintenance to resolve mechanical and electrical equipment issues and minimize production disruptions.
- Maintain accurate records related to attendance, overtime, and departmental activities.
- Support labor relations activities including grievance procedures and apprenticeship programs.
- Participate in production meetings and communicate departmental updates, challenges, and solutions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality.
Education & Skills Requirements
- A high school diploma or trade school certification required; completion of an apprenticeship program or bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Five (5) to ten (10) years of experience in CNC machining and inspection of heavy components in a complex manufacturing or job shop environment required.
- Five (5) to seven (7) years of supervisory or leadership experience in a machining or manufacturing environment required.
- Strong knowledge of machining processes, tooling, inspection methods, and machine capabilities.
- Working knowledge of CNC programming and machining operations.
- Experience operating in a unionized manufacturing environment preferred.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage complex operations.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Excellent computer skills including working knowledge of ERP systems and Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Pay Range
$75,000 - $80,000 per hour
