Machine Safety Automation Technical Program Manager, Global Safety Engineering

We seek a Machine Safety Automation Technical Program Manager (TPM) to lead the development and execution of a multi-year safety automation and intelligence roadmap. This role shapes how data, engineering, and operations work together to move from reactive incident management to proactive risk prevention at scale.

You will define and drive a machine safety automation roadmap that integrates AI-driven insights, engineering systems, and operational execution into scalable solutions. Operating at the intersection of safety engineering, automation, and operations, you will translate risk signals into technical strategies that embed safety into Amazon’s systems and infrastructure. This high-impact role influences safety outcomes across Amazon’s global network, spanning automation systems, equipment design, and operational execution.

Responsibilities

• Manage and drive the machine safety automation strategy by developing and executing a multi-year roadmap that integrates AI-driven insights, engineering systems, and operational execution to proactively reduce machine-related risk across the network.
• Lead the development of machine incident intelligence and predictive risk models that enable a shift from reactive analysis to proactive hazard detection, prioritization, and intervention.
• Operate at the center of complex cross-functional programs, partnering with safety, engineering, and operations teams to translate machine risk insights into scalable technical solutions, standards, and deployment models.
• Drive stakeholder alignment, manage program execution, and ensure delivery from concept through pilot readiness, validation, and full-scale deployment.
• Establish governance mechanisms that provide visibility into program health and prevention-through-design execution, including tracking risk identification, mitigation actions, and closure effectiveness alongside safety outcomes such as Machine Recordable Injury Rate (RIR) and Serious Injury Rate (SIR).
• Define and track success metrics to enable data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement across programs.
• Partner closely with hardware, software, and automation engineering teams to ensure safety is designed into systems from the outset. Influence technical design decisions, identify operational and engineering risks early, and drive mitigation strategies across multiple stakeholders.
• Build and scale reusable mechanisms—including frameworks, standards, and processes—that embed safety into automation programs, enabling consistent execution and long-term scalability across regions and business units.

A day in the life

This role is primarily focused on scaling machine safety through automation, data, and engineering execution. You will begin your week analyzing network-level safety trends and AI-driven insights to identify emerging risks and prioritize intervention opportunities. You will partner with engineering and operations leaders to align on automation initiatives, translating safety requirements into technical specifications and scalable deployment plans. Throughout the week, you will lead program reviews, manage cross-functional execution, and ensure milestones are tracked across multiple workstreams. You will also work closely with hardware and software engineering teams to validate system safety, reliability, and operational readiness, while shaping long-term strategy through roadmap planning and executive updates. At times, you will step into ambiguous or high-visibility escalations where decisions have network-wide impact.

The team is transitioning to a structure composed of Hardware Safety Engineers, Product Development Engineers, Functional Safety Engineers, and Technical Program Managers. This role partners closely with senior leaders across WHS, Engineering, Operations, and Procurement to deliver scalable, machine safety solutions across the global network.

Requirements

• 5+ years of technical product or program management experience
• 7+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience
• 3+ years of software development experience
• 5+ years of technical program management working directly with software engineering teams experience
• Experience managing programs across cross-functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering
• Experience working with engineering teams (hardware, software, or automation) on complex technical programs
• Experience leveraging AI technologies to elevate data analysis, accelerate automation deployment, or scale technical mechanisms across large systems

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience
• Experience managing projects across cross-functional teams, building sustainable processes and coordinating release schedules
• Experience defining KPI's/SLA's used to drive multi-million dollar businesses and reporting to senior leadership
• Master’s degree in Mechanical, Structural, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering
• CSME or other functional safety certification

Pay

• USA, TN, Nashville: $141,300.00 - $191,100.00 USD annually
• USA, VA, Arlington: $148,700.00 - $201,200.00 USD annually
• USA, WA, Bellevue: $148,700.00 - $201,200.00 USD annually
