Responsibilities

  • Support other apprentices, machinists, and lead machinists on various projects
  • Follow instructions from foreman and supervisors to ensure tasks are completed efficiently
  • Keep the job site clean and well-organized
  • Handle the loading and unloading materials, tools, and equipment
  • Ensure attention to detail and follow safety standards
  • Inspect mechanical or industrial equipment to locate damage, defects, or wear, disassemble and repair stamping presses
  • Basic understanding of piping - lube system repairs, thread pipe, tubing and steam fitting work
  • Understanding precise measurement of machine components for installation, repair and quality control
  • Align, level and anchor machinery
  • Select rigging components and develop basic rigging procedures for general load handling activities
  • Under supervision estimate the weight and center-of-gravity of a load
  • Understand load handling equipment dynamics and the associated hazards
  • Assist with and perform the positioning of chain falls, hoists, blocks, rope, jacks, chains and rigging
  • Stick (arc) welding
  • Torch cutting
  • Blueprint / Job layout reading
  • Familiar with pneumatic and hydraulic schematic reading
  • Understanding, familiar with confined space entrant
  • Rigging: Understanding and familiar with rigging industrial components

Requirements

  • Trailer loading and securing of material & equipment
  • Chauffeurs License & DOT Med Card

Preferred Requirements

  • Attaching rigging to a load based upon a pre-planned rigging method
  • Set up and/or operate machines
  • Physical (preferred)
  • Precision measuring equipment (ID/OD micrometers, calipers, dial indicators)
  • Overhead crane certified & qualified (preferred)
  • Material handling equipment (i.e. skates, power dolly’s, jack & slides)
  • Operation of equipment (lathe, mill, saw, drill press, etc.)

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to ascend/descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs, and/or operate scissor/boom lifts while working at height.
  • Work in permit & non-permit required confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment.
  • Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move up to 50 pounds regularly/occasionally
  • Must be able to respond quickly to auditory alarms, visual signals, or other effective means to communicate hazards
  • Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to work in cold/hot environments.
  • Must be able to traverse irregular and steep terrain.
