Machine Operator (Press and Straightener)

About the role

Franklin Industries is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Machine Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical background and the ability to operate various press machines and straightener machines effectively, ensuring the production process runs smoothly and efficiently while maintaining high-quality standards.

As a Press/Straightener Operator, you will oversee all tasks pertaining to the safe and efficient operation of equipment including, but not limited to, the 800, 756, 750, 600, 400, and 250 presses (any 90-ton presses), as well as pointers, shears, saws, straighteners, and positions on the paint line. You will be responsible for meeting or exceeding production goals set by management and will serve as the lead for the group working on that piece of equipment.

Responsibilities

• Follow all work and safety instructions
• Operate machinery safely and efficiently
• Taper channel posts as necessary by work order requirements
• Stack and accurately count all production
• Complete work orders accurately
• Maintain accurate records of production and failed equipment/tooling
• Keep an organized and clean work area
• Examine product to ensure it meets quality standards
• Load and unload material into/out of equipment
• Perform basic troubleshooting when necessary
• Operate overhead & jib crane as needed
• Train or assist in training new employees
• Willing to work in other departments as needed
• Perform any additional tasks set forth by management

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED is highly preferred but not required
• 6 months experience in a manufacturing position is highly preferred
• General mathematics including addition, subtraction, and multiplication
• Some mechanical knowledge is highly preferred

Working Conditions

• Safety-sensitive position; operates and works around heavy machinery
• Exposure to mechanical parts and vibrations
• Deals with some liquids/chemicals
• Work environment includes both indoor and outdoor settings

Schedule

Between 40 and 58 hours per week.

• 6 AM – 4 PM, Monday through Friday
• 6 AM – 2 PM on Saturdays (as needed)

Pay

Starting pay is typically $19/hour, commensurate with experience. Overtime is paid at 1.5x pay after 40 hours. New employees are eligible for merit raises and cross-training opportunities after passing their 90-day probationary period.
