Machine Operator - Machining
Job Summary
Under general supervision, set up, operate, and adjust various types of conventional or automatic machines and other precision equipment. Work from drawings and written instructions to produce machine finished parts. Work is diversified and machining is performed to ordinary tolerances. Inspect all finished products to maintain high quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Show understanding of all Quality process controls and documentation.
- Apply knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machine ability of materials and layout techniques, using hand and power tools.
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished pieces, sequence of machining operations and set-up requirements.
- Execute SOS (safety, order, shine) as well as act as a role model.
- Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls or control media as required.
- Perform quality checks at the correct frequencies and correctly log the information as required.
- Document daily in shift log of the I+R Collaborate and work within continuous improvement teams on plant projects.
- Work to continuously improve all areas of productivity and reduce scrap.
- Verify dimensions of machined parts or tooling for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, verniers, calipers, height gauges, optical comparators, etc.
- Promote positive employee and company culture.
- Submit and implement lean and safety suggestions.
Academic/Educational Requirements
A High School Graduate or equivalent.
Required Skills/Experience
- Two to four years of Machine Operator experience, preferred.
- Flexibility and willingness to learn and help in other areas of the factory.
- Ability to work independently when needed.
- Complete all provided training prior to on-the-job training.
- Effective communication in both oral and written forms to various levels within the organization.
