Machine Operator II - Finishing

1st Shift (Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–2:30 PM)

About the role

Improves surface condition of rolled products by sanding and/or grinding. Sets up and operates shears and leveling machines used in the production of tantalum and niobium products. Assists as needed in the rolling mills.

Responsibilities

• Sands or grinds rolled materials to remove surface imperfections and meet product specifications including but not limited to Class 1 requirements
• Sets up and operates leveling equipment
• Sets up and operates shears to ensure final product meets the required dimensional specs
• Assists as needed in the handling of material at the rolling mills under the direction of the Rolling Mill Operator
• Follows good safety practices, complies with PPE requirements and follows environmental policies
• Understands specifications and uses measuring instruments with assistance
• Recognizes problems and seeks assistance to resolve
• Performs all other duties as assigned by Supervisor

Requirements

• High School or Vocational School Diploma and/or GED required
• 0–2 years of related production experience in a manufacturing environment
• Basic math skills
• Understanding of basic measuring equipment (micrometers, calipers)
• Good communication skills including the ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with some machining experience is a plus
• May require the use of fork trucks, overhead cranes, hand carts and hand tools
• Must be capable of obtaining a fork truck license and/or overhead crane license and must obtain a lockout/tagout certification

Physical demands and work environment

• Position requires direct contact on the manufacturing floor and requires ambulation
• Work time is spent in a factory environment where temperatures fluctuate

Pay

Pay Range: $24.41–$30.15. Actual base salary offered varies based on factors including relevant skill, prior experience, education, base salary of internal peers, demonstrated performance, and geographic location.

Export compliance

The selection of the person to be hired for this position is contingent on the candidate having export compliance eligibility for access to U.S. controlled technology under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). The candidate must qualify as one of the following: a U.S. citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., Person Admitted into the U.S. as an Asylee or Refugee, National of a country not prohibited from access to U.S. controlled technology (via a letter of assurance), or a Person to be approved for an export license by the governing agency. Any job offer requiring approval of an export license will be conditional on Materion’s determination that it can obtain the license in a time frame consistent with its business requirements.
