Machine Operator II

About the role

Reporting to the Fabrication Supervisor, as a Machine Operator II, you will operate all fabricating machines—such as cutoff saws, shears, rolls, brakes, presses, laser, forming machines, spinning machines, and punch machines—that cut, shape, and bend metal plates, sheets, tubes, and structures.

Responsibilities

• Laser machine:
  • Set up and operate the machine in accordance with established procedures and guidelines
  • Adjust machine settings to complete tasks according to specification, accurately and in a timely fashion
  • Perform minimal programming on the machine
  • Cut and inspect parts for accuracy, place correct stickers on parts, and sort
  • Assist in troubleshooting the machine when needed
  • Correctly interpret blueprints and engineering drawings
  • Safely and effectively use hand tools, measuring tape, and machinery
  • Operate an overhead crane
  • Drive a forklift
• Punching/Brake machine:
  • Interpret blueprints and engineering drawings correctly
  • Set up and operate machines in accordance with established procedures and guidelines
  • Adjust machine settings to complete tasks according to specification, accurately and in a timely fashion
  • Assist in troubleshooting the machine when needed
  • Safely and effectively use hand tools, measuring tape, and machine equipment
  • Perform part programming on the machine
  • Inspect finished products
  • Sharpen tools as needed

Requirements

• Required Experience & Skills:
  • 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 3–5 years of experience operating fabricating machinery
  • Ability to read a tape measure and ruler and convert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions
• Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • 3–5 years of experience programming equipment (Laser or Brake)
  • Ability to meet all product quality requirements
  • Experience with precision hand tools
  • Spot welding experience
  • Strong attention to detail

Physical Demands

• Lifting up to 100 pounds; 100+ pounds with assistance
• Sitting, standing, walking, bending, grasping, pushing, pulling, crawling, climbing, twisting, reaching, and working at heights, including using a ladder
• Ability to use both hands overhead
• Perform repetitive motions
• Work in a plant environment with potential exposure to all types of weather, including excessive heat, excessive cold, and excessive noise

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required

Working Environment

• Onsite role requiring standing and walking for at least 8 hours per day
• Regularly push/pull material up to 3,000 lbs with assistance from an overhead crane
• Climb stairs, reach, and bend regularly
• Occasionally sit, grasp, climb, crawl, twist, and work at heights
• Occasionally lift, hold, and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Manufacturing environment requires use of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as foot, eye, and ear protection when in production locations
• Potential exposure to bad weather, excessive heat, and/or excessive noise
