About the role

The Machine Operator I is an entry-level position for individuals with limited manufacturing experience. This role involves basic deburring, buffing, sanding, and tumble operations, working independently and in a team environment. Responsibilities span Finishing, Engraving, Cerakote, Black Oxide, and MagCell, including minor assembly, use of small hand tools, sand blasters, and tumblers to finish mechanical parts. The role also includes engraving serial numbers and other markings on SIG SAUER firearms using laser cutting machines to meet defined output rates.

Responsibilities

• Use hard gauging to confirm proper characteristics as required.
• Participate in assigned root cause analysis activities.
• Perform bead and sand blasting, and run tumblers following established procedures.
• Under supervision, use automated and manual equipment, chemicals (e.g., acetone), and processes for cleaning robots, stripping coatings, running and mixing coating/painting booths, and dunking mag tubes in multiple chemical processes.
• Use Standard Laser Engraver and Automated Laser Cells to engrave non-serialized products.
• Participate in Continuous Improvement activities as needed.
• Complete tasks in a timely manner.
• Engage in 5S workplace organizational activities and maintain the area in good working order.
• Maintain regular on-site attendance and punctuality.
• May be required to work in other functional areas or facilities based on business needs.
• May be required to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs.
• Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent, related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and understand work instructions in English.
• Entry-level position; limited to some manufacturing experience required.
• Ability to perform at least 3 out of the following 5 tasks: Assembly (Mag Cell), Goff, tumble, bead blast, and basic surface prep operations.
• Basic math skills required.
• Ability to read and follow routers, work instructions, and control plans.
• Basic knowledge of gauging and deburring.
• Must be able to convey ideas and information clearly in English, both verbally and in writing.

Working Conditions

• Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
• Work is primarily standing (90%+ of the shift) except for lunch and break periods.
• Shifts are 8, 10, or 12 hours.
• Exposure to a typical manufacturing environment.
• Frequent standing, sitting, stooping/squatting, walking, and stair climbing.
• Frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
• Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend, kneel (minimum 50% of the shift), and perform repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
• Proficient fine motor skills, including gripping, reaching, pulling, turning, and using tools to torque fixtures.
• Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and ability to focus on fine print.
• Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where mandated.
• Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
