Machine Operator
Position Purpose
The Machine Operator is responsible for ensuring all machine processing meets the company's safety and product quality expectations and customer standards. The Machine Operator monitors and sets the pace of the line running, taking necessary steps to maximize line productivity.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities, And Key Accountabilities
Perform mechanical and machine HMI operation functions.
Perform label verification checks.
Maintain coordination with FSQA Techs on status of products in process and assist in resolution of any noted deviations.
Maintain coordination with the Line Lead to identify and resolve issues as they arise.
Assist all stations on production line where bottlenecks occur.
Assist in correct code date verification.
Check Fill Rate on an hourly basis. Take necessary action to maximize.
Maintain hour by hour boards tracking downtime, staffing, product in progress, pressurization time, fill rates, cycles completed per hour.
Review board updates for any evident trends and take action accordingly to resolve or improve.
Understand and complete paperwork associated with product for each customer’s specifications.
Monitor attendance at the line at Shift Changes, start and end of Breaks and Lunch and communicate deficiencies to Line Lead and / or Supervisor.
When possible, schedule to start an HPP cycle before leaving for lunch or break so there is material ready for emptying baskets when staff returns from Break or Lunch.
Report any issues to supervisor immediately.
Communicate changeovers with quality and team lead to make sure a three-party verification takes place.
Work with Line Lead to insure complete Label change outs.
Lead the execution of CIP’s of the line, focusing on the upstream end and the machine but ensure all Team Members are wearing appropriate safety gear and safely handling sanitation chemicals.
Monitor the quality of the CIP to ensure any foreign material is removed or adjust or repeat the process.
Ensure all surfaces are adequately contacted with Cleaner and Sanitizer.
Ensure the Cleaning Chemicals are properly stored in the Cage and the Cage is secured when completed.
Communicate any mechanical issues with Maintenance team via radio.
Based on maintenance techs feedback, discuss short term plans to clean the front end of the line, clear empty containers or stage material needed upon restart.
If prognosis is the shutdown could be greater than 15 minutes, discuss reallocation of labor resources to other areas (other lines, rework, denaturing, VAS, sanitation, etc.).
Review weekly “Operator Scorecard.” Share best practices resulting in performance better than standard and implement corrective action for performance below expectations.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Previous experience working in cold environment
Machine operator experience is desired
Evidence of positive results working in a team environment
Display ability to meet daily deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment
Proven satisfactory attendance
Must be flexible with work schedule and job duties with changing work environment
Good communication skills (read, write, speak)
(Bilingual in Spanish is a positive)
Proven legible writing skills
Working Conditions
This job operates in a cold and wet environment located within the facility. Requires standing for entire shift, bending, twisting, and lifting. Ability to lift 45 pounds or more on a regular basis. Push/pull up to 500 lbs pounds on rollers regularly.
Hourly Employees: Universal Pure facilities may process, pack, and store products containing allergenic food ingredients as referenced by FDA, team members who may come in direct contact, must be able to work with these ingredients.
