About the role

Sets up and operates a multi-unit pocket on the Longford press and coordinates with the Supervisor to ensure each job is run according to customer specifications while meeting internal and external deadlines. Maintains quality control and reduces waste or machine downtime.

Responsibilities

  • Examine job orders to determine quantities, stock specifications, colors, or special instructions.
  • Ensure team members know job details to maintain proper product quality.
  • Verify that foil received meets job specifications.
  • Initiate and perform make-readies, including instructing other team members to assist.
  • Perform general operations maintenance activities while maintaining speed and quality.
  • Determine first save copies on all start-ups.
  • Collect and inspect random samples during runs to identify necessary adjustments.
  • Ensure quality standards required by customers are met and maintained, including consistency throughout the run.
  • Ensure the correct proof is available for each job and returned upon completion (includes O.K.’d sample packs).
  • Direct team members to establish and review maintenance tasks during major make-readies.
  • Coordinate team interactions to ensure proper machine operations.
  • Monitor and direct activities to ensure proper pack quality.
  • Generate required records and waste reports.
  • Maintain waste within acceptable ranges as defined by management.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping on and around the machine and work area.
  • Ensure all safety mechanisms (guards, interlocks, etc.) are in proper condition and report deficiencies immediately; engage Lockout/Tagout if necessary.
  • Attend and participate in required meetings and training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Basic computer skills related to Longford operations.
  • Basic math skills.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read and understand written instructions and set up the press accordingly.
  • Problem-solving skills related to machine operations.
  • Understanding of quality systems and how they relate to customer expectations.

Qualifications

  • Mechanical ability (working with machinery).

Skills

  • Ability to meet stringent deadlines.
  • Organized with strong planning, prioritization, and follow-through skills; minimal supervision required.
  • Ability to interact and cooperate with team members; enthusiastic and positive attitude.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with team members and supervisors.
  • Flexibility in job shift assignments, ability to work overtime when required, and cover other shifts as needed.
