Responsibilities

The Machine Operator assists in producing and controlling the quality of film, ensuring product quality and control of production processes while providing a safe work environment through proper training and communication. This position works closely with the Team Supervisor, Process Department, and Maintenance to meet customer quality expectations and site goals.

• Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and ensure team members work within safety guidelines.
• Complete safety orientation and certification training for forklift, pole truck, clamp truck, and claw truck.
• Complete behavior-based Safety and Quality audits monthly.
• Understand the extrusion process, including film properties, web handling, raw materials, and finished product.
• Understand customer specifications and visual inspection requirements.
• Accurately enter and review key film properties in Quality Windows.
• Operate within the guidelines of FIFO, 5S, and other Lean Manufacturing structures.
• Maintain sufficient labeling and packaging supplies during and at the end of shifts.
• Assist in training new hires.
• Ensure all finished product meets customer specifications.
• Verify all test data sheets, ensuring data falls within specified targets and is signed off.
• Complete proper documentation in line logs and other line paperwork.
• Ensure all outgoing products are labeled and packaged according to customer specifications.
• Maintain proper housekeeping of the line and adjacent areas.
• Work with maintenance to complete minor and preventative maintenance on the line.
• Maintain communication with Lead Operators, Team Supervisors, and production management regarding line issues that could result in downtime, quality rejects, or personal injury.
• Learn line thread-up and winding procedures, core cutting procedures, and process roll care/cleaning/film wrapping removal procedures.
• Learn the procedure to safely change screen packs.
• Complete all job task checklists within the first 90 days of employment.
• Complete cross-training on other lines.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• 1-3 years of manufacturing experience preferred.
• Proficiency in using standard office machines and computer software, including MS Office Suite.
• Ability to operate, monitor, and adjust machinery or production equipment safely and efficiently.
• Ability to read and follow work instructions, production schedules, safety procedures, and quality standards.
• Basic math, measurement, and counting skills, including the ability to use rulers, gauges, calipers, or other measuring tools.
• Ability to perform basic quality checks and identify defects, equipment issues, or product inconsistencies.
• Ability to document production activity, such as counts, downtime, scrap, or quality results.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain consistent production output.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and meet production goals.
• Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, lift, push, pull, and perform repetitive tasks.
• Ability to lift up to 25–50 pounds, depending on the role.
• Willingness to follow all company safety policies, including the use of required PPE.
• Ability to work assigned shift, overtime, weekends, or rotating schedules as needed.
• Basic mechanical aptitude or ability to troubleshoot minor machine issues preferred.
• Reliable attendance and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Physical Demands:

• Ability to stand and walk 12 hours or more a day on concrete, solid metal, or corrugated metal surfaces to perform production duties.
• Ability to work rotating 8-hour shifts if needed.
• Ability to sit while driving and operating material handling equipment for 1-3 hours per shift.
• Ability to sit while entering data into computers, reviewing data, or completing reports.
• Ability to climb, bend, stoop, and crawl.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
• Required to frequently ascend and descend up to three flights of stairs over extremely fast-moving machinery.
• Required to safely access fast-moving machinery, including rolls with inward nip points.

Work Environment:

• Areas may or may not be air-conditioned or heated; may be humid, hot, or cold depending on seasonal conditions.
• Exposure to hot and/or abrasive surfaces.
• Required to work in tight spaces occasionally and at heights daily.
• Possible exposure to noise levels over 90 decibels for 12 hours at certain locations.
• Moving machinery or moving objects on the production floor.
• Floor surfaces may be slippery at times.
• Exposure to outside elements on occasion.

• Ability to read charts and document numbers and events on paper and in a computer.
