About the role

Associate operates and maintains equipment on one or more extrusion lines. Must be able to run all products and lines without assistance, ensuring extruder outputs are consistent with product specifications. Maintains quality assurance by inspecting finished product and conducting scheduled tests. Rejects all unacceptable product and ensures testing equipment is in proper working order.

Responsibilities

  • Verify operational status of all equipment on assigned line according to start-up checklist
  • Maintain extruder and peripheral line equipment settings (embosser, sterlco, dies, MRF, etc.) to produce outputs consistent with product specifications
  • Perform Quality Assurance responsibilities, including conducting tests on finished product to determine quality within established performance ranges
  • Notify supervisory personnel of deviations for prompt correction
  • Communicate with Maintenance Department and Manufacturing Shift Supervisor about machine malfunctions
  • Perform preventive maintenance on production floor equipment and maintain bar coders
  • Troubleshoot extruder issues and perform basic mechanical repairs
  • Communicate raw material needs to Manufacturing Shift Supervisor to meet product specifications
  • Ensure proper hook-up of raw materials to extruder hopper
  • Perform all Quality Assurance procedures, including rejecting out-of-specification product and placing questionable product on hold
  • Recommend 100% audit of line run or product grinding when indicated
  • Start and maintain a production shift by delegating assignments and making necessary adjustments
  • Complete Train the Trainer certification and attend Basic Principals leadership class
  • Train all EA3’s on shift and demonstrate leadership through team involvement or project work
  • Run all products, extrusion lines, and multiple lines when required
  • Monitor Extrusion Associate 1s and 2s to ensure product consistency and proper packing techniques
  • Relieve line EA1s and EA2s for breaks
  • Perform all functions outlined in the Extrusion Associate 4 job description
  • Demonstrate knowledge of computers and common software (Word, Excel)
  • Handle multiple tasks by establishing priorities and managing time with minimal supervision
  • Maintain supplies at workstation and communicate with Material Handlers to move full warehouse racks
  • Assist with training new personnel in extrusion and quality assurance areas
  • Train temporaries and new hires in Extrusion Associate roles (1s, 2s, 3s, and 4s)
  • Float to relieve Extrusion Associates for breaks
  • Attend weekly shift meetings and monthly All Hands Forum, if required
  • Actively participate in plant safety programs
  • Notify Supervisor if proper tools are not furnished to complete job functions
  • Assist with production equipment maintenance
  • Punch time clock before and after shift to record time worked
  • Observe health and safety practices when handling materials

Requirements

  • High School Graduate/GED
  • Three years of directly related experience (e.g., EA3 and EA4)
  • Ability to read, write, and understand machine mechanics
  • Good mechanical aptitude and above-average math skills
  • Common sense, positive attitude, and excellent attendance record
  • Quality and safety conscious, team player with good communication skills
  • Ability to operate computers, ten-key, and read calipers/micrometers to within one thousandth of an inch
  • Ability to lift up to 86 lbs continuously above shoulder height and below the waist, and team-lift 87 to 100 lbs
  • Excellent manual dexterity and attention to detail
  • Ability to operate, read, and interpret test equipment and findings
  • Extensive standing, frequent bending, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, twisting, and walking
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions and handle conflicts over product quality
