Machine Operator
About the role
The Airbus Aerosystems Kinston facility specializes in the production of large, advanced composite aerostructures, manufacturing critical components for the state-of-the-art Airbus A350 XWB, including the composite center fuselage and wing spar.
Responsibilities
- Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools to make parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions.
- Interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determines sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup.
- Makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds.
- Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining.
- Fits and assembles precision parts into mechanical equipment and determines material, parts, and equipment required.
- May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical processes or other control procedures.
- Concurrently performs related functions to provide complete hardware in accordance with engineering specifications (e.g., operating multiple machines simultaneously, deburr part surface, milling, drilling, boring, honing, grinding, fastening).
- Performs routine minor machine maintenance as part of their daily work duties (e.g., replacing machine filters, changing standard lightbulbs on machines and equipment, maintaining lubrication/coolant levels as related to basic Total Preventative Maintenance duties).
- Routinely moves products within the immediate manufacturing work area, including across isle, using shop assigned equipment as required, and complete transactions necessary to move product to the next operation.
- Trains to become MVP qualified.
Requirements
- At least 3 years’ machine operator experience.
- Must be willing and able to work any shift to include working overtime as needed.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED or Work Keys Assessment completion.
- The ability to successfully complete the following training provided by Airbus after recruitment: Health & Safety, General aircraft familiarization, Quality training.
Skills
- Knowledge of station safety, quality (clean as you go / Foreign Object Debris) and OSHA regulations.
- Basic machine operator skills.
