About the role

Set up and operate conventional mills, lathes, and other machines using Lean and 5S methodologies to fabricate metallic and non-metallic parts.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies different types and sizes of steel needed for the job (primarily HRS and CRS)
  • Interprets blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, work orders, and sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements
  • Set up and operate manual machinery including lathes, mills, drill presses, saws, and radial arm drill
  • Inspect finished parts and record results
  • Maintain clean and organized work area
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds and feeds for machining operations
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot minor machine issues
  • Attendance at work during the regularly scheduled shift is an essential duty, including arriving on time, being ready at the workstation, and working mandatory overtime when necessary

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • 2+ years of experience preferred
  • Technical School Certificate preferred
  • Able to use Microsoft Office Applications

Skills

  • Ability to read and understand a tape measure, 12-inch scale, micrometers, calipers, and other measuring devices (Imperial and Metric)
  • Computer Skills: Proficient with Windows Operating System
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to convert fractions to decimals, familiarity with the metric system and metric to imperial conversions
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with concrete variables in situations with limited standardization; interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

Physical Demands

This is a physical position that requires the individual to:

  • Stand, walk, and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Push, pull, climb, walk up stairs, and crouch
  • Communicate through speaking and hearing
