Machine Operator 1st Shift

About the role

Our Machine Operators are responsible for all activities associated with safely operating production machines, including setup, operation, cleanup, and recommending improvements to meet customer demand. This is a full-time position with overtime required.

Responsibilities

• Work safely at all times, comply with Pratt Industries Safety rules, and participate in the Plant Safety Committee.
• Follow Good Manufacturing Processes (GMPs) and quality procedures to prevent poor quality from reaching customers.
• Maximize equipment utilization by operating machinery at available capacity and speed while improving setup and downtime.
• Maintain clean and hazard-free work areas, including break rooms and bathrooms.
• Train and assist Assistant Machine Operators, Machine Helpers, and Production Utility with job duties.
• Cross-train on other machines and positions within the plant.
• Complete accurate and timely reports (Production Data, Machine Operational Status, Safety Data, Quality Data).
• Submit maintenance work order requests and proactively maintain equipment.
• Adhere to production schedules and recommend optimizations for cost, quality, and service goals.
• Work overtime as necessary, including short notice and holidays.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Prior work experience in the packaging industry (paper, plastics, converting) is a plus.
• 6 months’ experience in a manufacturing operation.
• Able to read and follow instructions (quality, safety, job packets).
• Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
• Able to calculate percentages, measurements, volume, and rates using high school math concepts.
• Apply common sense to carry out written, oral, or graphic instructions.
• May require a current Lift Truck Operator License.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, or hear.
• Frequently required to use hands, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Occasionally required to sit.
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

• Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
• Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
• Occasionally exposed to high places, fumes, airborne particles, and vibration.
• Noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
