Machine Learning Scientist III
About the role
The Machine Learning and Data Science team at Expedia Group is seeking a hands-on scientist to develop state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms that enhance the customer experience across various use cases. This role involves designing and implementing ML solutions, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and continuously improving models based on business impact.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement ML solutions for complex prediction and optimization problems in customer service and trip management.
- Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and communicate findings effectively.
- Test, learn, and iterate on ML models to ensure they meet business objectives and improve customer satisfaction.
Requirements
- PhD or MS in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, Physics).
- 3+ years of hands-on industry experience building and deploying machine learning models.
- Expertise in applied ML, including statistical modeling, experimental design, and causal inference.
- Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, and proficiency in the machine learning software development lifecycle.
- Domain knowledge in customer service, recommendation systems, operational applications of ML, and/or e-commerce.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or equivalent professional experience.
- Proven ability to design end-to-end ML solutions, including problem formulation, data source identification, algorithm selection, feature engineering, and evaluation strategy.
- Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, and workflows, and experience applying AI/ML concepts to real-world products.
Skills
- First-principles problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
- Experience with reinforcement learning or other advanced ML techniques.
Benefits

The total cash range for this position varies by location, but typically ranges from $137,500 to $220,000 annually, with potential for further increases based on performance.
Pay
The starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience. The top of the range for this position is $220,000 in Seattle and $238,500 in San Jose.
