About the Role

Vanguard is seeking a highly skilled and visionary Lead Machine Learning Engineer to spearhead the development and deployment of advanced AI/ML solutions within its Financial Advisory Services (FAS) division. This leadership role requires a strategic thinker with strong technical expertise in machine learning, data science, and software engineering. The successful candidate will lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers and data scientists, driving initiatives that enhance Vanguard’s digital capabilities and operational efficiencies. The role involves collaborating closely with product managers, architecture teams, and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into scalable, reliable, and compliant AI solutions. The Lead Machine Learning Engineer will play a critical role in shaping Vanguard’s AI strategy, ensuring best practices in model governance, deployment, and operational excellence, ultimately delivering innovative tools that empower clients and advisors alike.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field; a graduate degree is preferred.
• Minimum of eight years of professional experience in machine learning, data science, or related technical roles, with a proven track record of leading complex AI/ML projects.
• Strong expertise in designing, developing, and deploying machine learning models at scale.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala, and experience with ML frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn.
• Deep understanding of data architecture, feature engineering, and model lifecycle management.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into business value.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of financial services industry regulations, data privacy, and security standards is a plus.
