Machine Builder I-II

About the role

This position involves assembling automated packaging machinery, troubleshooting mechanical and technical issues, and contributing to continuous improvement in safety, quality, and efficiency on the production floor.

Responsibilities

• Follow established safety protocols, wear required Personal Protective Equipment, and maintain a clean, organized workspace adhering to 5S standards.
• Meet quality standards, complete Quality Checklists, and report or correct discrepancies.
• Work efficiently to meet timelines, report labor accurately, and advise leads if deadlines may not be met.
• Assemble machines including formers, closers, loaders, and special machines using SolidWorks models and drawings to guide the build process.
• Submit Production Concerns requests for discrepancies and Engineering Change Requests (ECR) for continuous improvement ideas.
• Return stock parts properly and assist with crating and shipment of machines.
• Perform basic mechanical troubleshooting during the build process and assist with third-party equipment.
• Use computer systems such as Web Client, Composer, Infor Syteline, and Outlook.
• Read and analyze machine drawings, and interpret electrical and pneumatic schematics.
• Progress through the skills matrix to improve competency and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Two-year Automated Packaging degree or equivalent experience.
• Successful completion of Robotic System Build Tech Internship or equivalent.
• Experience using pneumatic and electrical tools, grinders, band saws, sanders, lifting devices, saws, drills, and hand tools.

Skills

• Proficient in SolidWorks for reviewing drawings and identifying assembly issues.
• Basic knowledge of electrical and pneumatic schematics.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for collaborating with diverse teams and departments.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and maintain a positive workplace environment.
• Problem-solving skills for troubleshooting custom-designed and third-party equipment.

Physical Requirements

• Stand and walk for most of the day.
• Speak and hear to exchange detailed information verbally and via telephone.
• Perform physical tasks including reaching, bending, climbing, crawling, kneeling, and extending arms/legs.
• Possess arm and hand mobility/strength to lift, hold, carry, push, and pull parts and tools.
• Regularly lift 40 pounds; occasionally lift up to 75 pounds with assistance.
• Judge distances and space relationships to meet tolerances and read plans/documents.

Work Environment

• 90% of duties performed on the assembly floor with exposure to tools, dirt, dust, chemicals, metals, plastics, varying temperatures, construction noises, and production odors.
• 10% of work performed in an office setting for detailed tasks, computer work, or meetings.

Tools and Equipment

• Operate assembly floor tools and equipment, including rigging techniques.
• Use office equipment such as computers, printers, telephones, copiers, and email.

Pay

The hourly salary range for this position is $21.00 - $28.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, performance, and skills relevant to the role.
