About the Role

Saint Alphonsus Health System is seeking a motivated and adaptable Medical Assistant to support one full-time heart care provider at the Nampa Heart Institute clinic. This position offers educational opportunities, including bi-weekly lunch and learns with providers and content experts, as well as online learning modules during orientation to enhance cardiac knowledge. The clinic fosters a great team environment with friendly providers who encourage learning.

The Saint Alphonsus Heart Institute provides care for a wide range of heart conditions, from common to complex, with state-of-the-art Heart Centers in Boise and Nampa and outreach services throughout the Treasure Valley.

Responsibilities

  • Perform primary Medical Assistant duties, including EKGs, placing heart monitors on patients, and educating patients on their use.
  • Set up stress tests.
  • Complete prior authorizations, patient calls, and in-basket tasks.
  • Work efficiently in a fast-paced, high patient volume clinic.
  • Demonstrate adaptability, strong critical thinking skills, and the ability to develop relationships with physicians and patients.

Experience with cardiac medications, EKG placement, and rhythm knowledge is a plus.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required at hire).
  • MA certification required within 90 days of hire from one of the following approved agencies:
    • American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA)
    • American Medical Technologists (RMA)
    • National Healthcare Association (CCMA)
    • National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA)
    • National Association of Health Professionals (NRCMA)
    • American Medical Certification Association (CMAC)
    • National Phlebotomy Certification Examination (NPCE MA)
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers certification from AHA, ARC, or the Military Training Network (required at hire).

For New MA Graduates:

  • MA certificate of completion from an accredited program or school.
  • Completion of either a 100-hour MA externship or 6 months of MA experience in lieu of externship hours, even with MA certification.

For Experienced Medical Assistants:

  • 1 year of MA experience OR current MA certification OR obtain/renew certification within 90 days of hire from approved agencies.

EMT and CNA certifications do not count toward MA certification.

Schedule

  • 40 hours per week.
  • Option 1: 4 - 10 hour shifts (approximately 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM).
  • Option 2: 5 - 8 hour shifts, Monday through Friday, with a later start time.
  • On-call schedule at the hospital may affect days worked in Nampa; schedule flexibility will be discussed during the interview.
