Job Summary
As an LVN Surgical Tech, you'll help in surgeries in the operating room. You'll assist a Registered Nurse and manage medical tools. Your role is vital for smooth surgical team operations. Your work ensures a safe and efficient environment for surgeries.
Essential Functions of the Role
- Talk to surgeons to understand their needs and prepare instruments before surgery starts.
- Responsibly prepare the operation site, ensuring it is thoroughly cleaned and prepped as necessary.
- Manage and prepare instrument tables in a well-organized manner to prevent instrument damage and discrepancies in instrument count.
- Check the functionality of all surgical instruments, equipment and supplies during the operation to ensure optimal performance.
- Precise counting skills are used to track sponges, sharps, tools, and other items following protocols.
- Closely anticipate and meet the needs of the surgeon and other surgical team staff during procedures.
- Absorb the draping and positioning of the patient will be another important aspect of your role.
- Handling surgical specimens as required, ensuring delivery to the circulating nurse from the sterile field according to protocol.
- After surgery, you will help in applying surgical dressings to the operation site.
- After the procedure, responsibility includes: Taking apart instruments carefully, Disposing of sharps, fluids, and waste safely, Preparing tools for decontamination.
- You will be involved in the sterilization, maintenance, and preparation of surgical tools, equipment and supplies for further use.
- After each operation, your diligence will be required in cleaning the operating room and returning equipment to designated storage areas.
- Compliance with all regulatory norms will be crucial to ensure the work environment is safe.
- Prior to patient use, ensure adequate knowledge and orientation with all tools and equipment is attained.
Key Success Factors
- You should have a good understanding of how to prevent infections and comply with sterilization regulations.
- It's important to understand the theory behind sterile and aseptic techniques, as well as how to apply them.
- A familiarity with human anatomy, various surgical procedures, and surgical tools and technologies will be beneficial.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact well with others are paramount.
- Be aware that there may be occasional exposure to chemicals and radiation hazards.

Qualifications
- Education: H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent
- Experience: Less than 1 Year of Experience
- Certification/License/Registration: License Pract/Vocational Nurse (LVN) and Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
