About the role
The Senior Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) performs a wide variety of patient care activities in support of clinic operations across UC San Diego Health’s Community Care locations, primarily within Express/Urgent Care. This position requires travel among all Community Care sites, with the majority of time spent at one of eight Express/Urgent Care locations. Assignments may also include Community Care’s Primary Care and Specialty Clinics as needed.
Responsibilities
- Prioritize and assist in patient triage processing
- Prepare and assist with patient examinations
- Administer medications
- Draw blood and collect/prepare laboratory tests
- Provide patient education
- Perform venipuncture and IV access
- Demonstrate initiative, prioritize critical demands, and work effectively in a team environment
Requirements
- Active Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license issued by the state of California
- BART or BLS certification at time of hire, with commitment to obtain BART within six months
- Minimum of two years of LVN experience
- Recent experience in a similar role and setting
- Knowledge of universal precautions and proper use of body mechanics
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and work collaboratively in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in Intravenous Therapy (LVN IV) issued by the state of California
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)
- ACLS and/or ART certification
- Express Care or Urgent Care experience
- Point of Care testing experience
- Ambulatory experience
- Procedure experience
Special Conditions
- Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call, and at various locations based on business needs
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical
- Life-support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) must include hands-on practice and in-person skills assessment; online-only certification is not acceptable
Pay
Annual Full Pay Range: $79,532 - $98,867 (prorated if appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $38.09 - $47.35
Factors determining compensation include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure, certifications, and organizational needs.
Schedule
- 95% appointment (38 hours per week)
- Days, 11-hour shifts, rotating Sunday-Saturday
