About the Role

Lumber Yard Associates are responsible for providing legendary service by safely and efficiently loading customer vehicles with building materials both by hand and on a forklift. This position also involves keeping the yards clean and stocking inventory. The role reports to the General Manager, Assistant Manager, and Location Supervisor, and requires close collaboration with external and internal customers.

Pay

$19.44-$23.59 hourly.

Responsibilities

  • Safely, accurately, and efficiently load customer vehicles with orders of building materials.
  • Ensure appropriate paperwork is completed as per company policy.
  • Receive delivered inventory by inspecting paperwork for accuracy and depositing inventory in designated locations.
  • Inspect stock and returned items to ensure salable quality.
  • Put stock away in the correct location and maintain organization.
  • Provide required paperwork for change orders.
  • Complete inventory adjustments and participate in inventory preparation and post procedures.
  • Read and follow instructions on picking tickets.
  • Open and close warehouse and yard when necessary.
  • Complete Blue-Volt training as required.
  • Learn products and applications, and attend product knowledge meetings.
  • Know product locations in the yard and warehouse.
  • Read a measuring tape and understand product terminology and grading.
  • Keep forklift clean and maintain yard cleanliness during work.
  • Adhere to company procedures, policies, and protocols as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Wear high visibility safety gear and proper uniform.
  • Perform daily lift inspections and report any malfunctioning equipment promptly.
  • Always look behind/honk horn when backing or rounding blind corners.
  • Safely operate equipment and promptly report all accidents, incidents, and damaged products.
  • Perform daily safety audits of forklift and keep aisles and exits clear.
  • Attach red safety flag to over-length product.
  • Participate on the safety committee if needed.
  • Understand weight, height, and length limits to inform customers about safe handling or transport of materials.
  • Consistently follow safety protocols.
  • Greet and assist all customers promptly.
  • Review and complete hold harmless forms with customers.
  • Share product knowledge with customers.
  • Pull orders and stage for will calls.

Requirements

  • OSHA Certified Forklift License preferred.
  • Ability to speak, write, and read English required.
  • Knowledge of receiving/inventory control principles, practices, and protocols.
  • Knowledge of dimension lumber, panel products, and other building materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret "picking tickets" and invoices.
  • Ability to concentrate and attend to detail in a busy work environment.
  • General knowledge and use of power tools.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 90 lbs.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, and walk.
