Troy School District and Lawrence Technological University have partnered to offer an Early College Experience focusing on Computer and Cyber Security Sciences, beginning with the 2028 TSD graduating class.

About the program

Through this program, students can graduate with a high school diploma and an Associate Degree in just five years. The program is designed for highly curious students interested in computer science and cyber security, offering a blend of high school and college coursework.

Students will experience courses taught by LTU professors at TSD high schools initially, with later courses held on LTU’s campus. Transportation is provided during the four years of high school. After graduating with their peers, students will enroll in a fully paid fifth year at LTU’s campus.

Program options

  • Computer Science (Associate Degree Program): Focuses on making networks invulnerable to cyber threats. Students engage in hands-on learning to develop innovative solutions using advanced technology, preparing them for programming and career opportunities in a high-demand field.
  • Cyber Security (Professional Certification): Combines theoretical computer science foundations with industry-relevant practical knowledge. The program cultivates analytical, quantitative, and computational skills to address today’s most challenging problems, guided by faculty committed to data-driven methods.

Eligibility

The program is open to all 9th-grade students enrolled in the Troy School District. Upon completion, successful students are eligible to continue their studies at LTU at 50% of tuition as they pursue a Bachelor’s Degree. Deadlines and additional information are available on the program’s website or through high school counselors. All accepted students will attend a parent and student meeting.

Students who earn their associate degree through high school Early College programs are 75% more likely to pursue a bachelor’s degree or higher certifications compared to those who start after graduating high school.

Benefits

  • Five-year program: Combines high school and college degree requirements, allowing students to earn an associate degree or certificate alongside their high school diploma.
  • In-district opportunity: Available exclusively to in-district 9th-grade students, offering a unique partnership between TSD and LTU.
  • Tuition and books paid: Tuition and fees are covered by Troy School District. Students receive focused instruction and access to support services to enhance their success.
