About the Role

To plan, instruct, and organize instructional environments which help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development. This role supports the instructional process by serving as a teacher with specific responsibility for supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas, developing lesson plans, and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all laws, Board Policies, regulations, rules, and procedures, and comply with directives from supervisors.
  • Work primarily independently in assigned school settings while maintaining effective rapport with staff and positive relationships with internal and external publics.
  • Work additional hours outside of the normal workday for planning, preparation, grading, documentation, and professional growth.
  • Provide individual, group, and classroom instruction aligned with the required curriculum, including:
    • Receiving and responding to student statements and questions in a timely manner.
    • Maintaining student discipline and an environment conducive to learning.
    • Utilizing effective teaching strategies and adapting them as necessary.
    • Adhering strictly to the course of instruction and using approved teaching materials.
    • Evaluating, grading, and recording student work and progress.
    • Communicating with parents/guardians regarding student progress, problems, and discipline.
    • Making appropriate referrals for support services (e.g., counselors, student support teams).
  • Maintain a positive, motivating, safe, orderly, and inclusive educational setting.
  • Set appropriate expectations for student performance while maintaining a courteous and impartial attitude toward students and parents/guardians.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to disciplinary and emergency situations.
  • Develop and produce daily lesson plans and required student records.
  • Maintain professional certification(s), including earning an Instructional II teaching certificate within the first six years of service.
  • Stay abreast of current developments in education through professional growth activities.
  • Attend all required meetings and submit reports as required by the school district.
  • Help maintain a safe school environment by reporting dangerous situations, accidents, or injuries.
  • Advocate for students by reporting suspected cases of abuse, neglect, health issues, or learning deficiencies.
  • Participate in teams such as grade-level teams, Child Study Team (CST), IEP teams, and others as appropriate.
  • Implement specially designed instruction and modifications as per IEPs and other agreements/plans.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff for co-planning, co-teaching, or team teaching.
  • Assist in developing budget areas pertinent to the assignment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

Requirements

  • Possess a valid Pennsylvania teaching certificate in the appropriate area.
  • Demonstrate a fundamental understanding of the assigned content area.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Effective communication, judgment, planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to follow directives and adhere to the established chain of command.
  • Dependable, punctual, flexible, and professionally attired with a neat appearance.
  • Professional demeanor and courteous interactions with students, staff, and the public.
  • Adequate interpersonal skills to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Necessary technology-related knowledge and skills.
  • Commitment to professional growth and staying current in the field.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods.
  • Move about the work area to access materials, file cabinets, and equipment.
  • Operate and perform simple service or repair on position-related equipment.
  • Travel between school district buildings and other job-related locations as necessary.
  • Withstand changes in environmental conditions inside and outside the work facility.
  • Attend evening meetings.
  • Access all work areas and locations.
  • Lift as required by the position.
