Definition and Examples of Duties
- Maintain campgrounds, shelter areas, playgrounds, trails, boat launches and visitor services.
- Clean procedures including trash removal, cleaning waste receptacles, and restroom and shower cleaning in county park facilities.
- Maintain turf and landscaped areas, operate and maintain commercial type mowers, trimmers and other equipment.
- Perform public contact activities through inspections of the campgrounds, picnic areas, trails, playgrounds and other visitor use areas.
- Provide information and assistance to the public for special events, camping and boat launches.
Education, Experience and Special Requirements
- Applicants must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.
- Certifications/Licenses: Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Special Requirements: Final candidate(s) will be subject to passing a thorough driving record background check. Ability to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays. Completion of the Wisconsin ATV/OHM Safety Course preferred.
Background Check Statement
Some positions may require a criminal background check which can include fingerprinting due to the nature of the job's responsibilities. Wisconsin's Fair Employment Law, s. 111.31 – 111.395, Wis. Stats., prohibits discrimination because of an arrest or conviction record. However, Dane County may disqualify an applicant if the position's responsibilities are substantially related to the applicant's criminal history (e.g., the nature of the crime and its relationship to the position, whether hiring, transferring or promoting an applicant would pose an unreasonable risk to the business, its employees, customers and vendors, etc.). Management reserves the right to make employment contingent upon successful completion of the background check.
Physical and Environmental Work Requirements
- Ability to routinely lift up to fifty (50) pounds unassisted.
- Ability to do manual labor, including repetitive lifting, bending, reaching, kneeling and squatting.
- Ability to string trim for four (4) hours at a time.
- Work will be primarily outdoors in varying terrains in harsh temperature conditions.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Communicate tactfully with the public.
- Work independently from oral and written directions.
- Have some skills in grounds maintenance and cleaning.
