About the role
Raytheon is seeking a Radar Diagnostics and Calibration Lead to join the Systems Engineering and Test Capabilities (SETC) Discipline supporting the Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor (LTAMDS) Program. This role serves as the system-level technical lead responsible for defining radar software behavior and ensuring correct interaction between hardware subsystems, diagnostics, and released software builds. You will drive the strategic vision of Maintenance Engineering to establish a Fault Detection and Fault Isolation (FDFI) foundation leading to Condition-Based Maintenance Plus (CBM+) and prognostics for the end user.
You will translate operational needs, failure modes, and maintainability requirements into clear guidance for systems/software implementation and act as the primary integration authority between software, systems, integration/test, and Deployment Fielding and Sustainment teams. Collaboration across Systems Engineering (SE), Systems Integration and Test (SIT), and Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) teams is essential.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of software and systems engineers to meet strategic FDFI and diagnostic maturity goals
- Oversee updates related to fault detection, isolation, and reporting logic
- Coordinate thread memo generation, review, and approval for future system FDFI capabilities
- Translate system/operational needs into actionable direction for the team, including:
- Defining clear, testable software requirements
- Authorizing SysCRs for new functionality, corrections, and diagnostic behavior
- Analyzing hardware–software interactions across LRUs, M3, gateway, and diagnostic infrastructure
- Identifying cross-subsystem impacts and integration risks before implementation
- Defining M3 software behaviors supporting soldier-replaceable LRUs and field maintenance workflows
- Documenting fault injection methods (via software or hardware) to support stakeholder review of critical fault evaluation
- Support build planning, prioritization, and release readiness
- Troubleshoot system-level issues during integration and field events
- Participate in technical reviews to ensure accurate software/hardware integration and SysCR implementation
- Maintain, document, and communicate deep radar system knowledge to reduce dependency on tribal knowledge
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in Systems Engineering or Multi-Disciplined Engineering
- Experience effectively leading multidisciplinary teams of systems engineering professionals
- Experience with complex embedded or real-time systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Proactive self-starter with ability to determine goals and pursue necessary actions
- Experience understanding full-system behavior, including second/third-order effects of software changes
- Familiarity with end-user capabilities, expectations, and training
- Understanding of LRU logic and fault isolation techniques
- Experience preparing customer and/or management-level briefings
- Experience defining clear, testable requirements or change requests
- Experience with RPL architecture, troubleshooting, and debugging
- Familiarity with configuration control and release processes
- Experience with B2 and B5 requirements
- Experience in schedule development, action item management, requirement change management, and development/progress metrics
- Experience working with external customers, including USG or FMS partners
- EVMS Certified (or equivalent)
- Experience navigating organizational structures and collaborating with stakeholders to develop solutions
- Experience in technical leadership and guidance of multi-disciplined teams in system requirements and design

Pay
The salary range for this role is $132,400 – $251,600 USD. The range reflects all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
