About the role

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Physician, provides nursing care to individuals and groups, applying basic knowledge of the biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences. Assists RNs and physicians in patient assessment and contributes to planning and evaluating quality patient care, considering emotional, social, and physical needs. Provides direct technical nursing care and informs RNs and/or physicians of patient symptoms, reactions, progress, and other pertinent information.

Responsibilities

• Assists Physicians and RNs in assessment of patients and contributes information in planning and evaluating quality patient care.
• Administers medications ordered by a licensed provider after completing the 90-hour Pharmacology Course and passing the National Exam; practices the Five Rights of safe medication administration.
• Responds to emergency situations promptly, precisely, and professionally.
• Maintains excellence in clinical competency and nursing skills through continuing education.
• Documents patient information in medical records (paper and electronic) according to policies and procedures.
• Participates in the ongoing quality improvement program and responds to data collection results.
• Presents a positive professional appearance and attitude, demonstrating excellent guest relations, interpersonal skills, and team values.
• Recognizes and respects Patient Rights; observes and maintains patient, staff, and corporate confidentiality.
• Manages and logs resulted lab culture results; prepares charts for physician reconciliation and makes follow-up calls as appropriate.
• Manages and logs radiology results; prepares charts for physician reconciliation.
• Calls report to outside facilities when needed.
• Answers call lights promptly and courteously.
• Sets up suture trays using aseptic technique; performs joint aspiration.
• Applies splints, wraps, slings, swaths, and cervical collars; assists with crutch use.
• Performs wound dressings.
• Assists with cardioversions, defibrillations, and pacemakers.
• Administers tetanus, flu, and pneumonia shots.
• Performs phlebotomy, EKGs, vital signs, medication administration (oral, nebulizer, IM, SQ), ear lavage, monofilament testing, glucometer use, occult blood testing, visual and auditory acuity tests, strep screens, urinalysis, urine pregnancy tests, and specimen collection.
• Operates office machines including personal computers, office computer systems (IDX, EMR, Meditech), fax, telephone, and photocopier.
• Performs other duties as requested.

Requirements

• Current LPN licensure for Ohio and ability to function within the scope of practice as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.
• BLS certification (mandatory).
• Completes orientation to acquire familiarity with LMHS policies, nursing procedures, and techniques within assigned patient care areas.
• Efficiently participates in emergencies (code blue, fire, weather, disaster).
• Basic analytical ability to perform assigned tasks and gather/interpet data in non-complex situations.
• Demonstrates ability to provide care for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients under supervision.
• Proficient in phlebotomy, EKG, vital signs, medication administration, ear lavage, monofilament testing, glucometer use, occult blood testing, visual/auditory acuity tests, strep screens, urinalysis, urine pregnancy tests, and specimen collection.
• Obtains/maintains 12-lead ECG testing proficiency, phlebotomy skills, and glucometer skills.
• Maintains annual Ortho-Glass competency and IBEX competency.
• Promotes a culture of safety and is proactive in implementing initiatives.
• IV Certification.
• Ability to read, write, and follow verbal or written instructions.
