About the role
An LPN performs a variety of direct and indirect patient care under the direction of a registered nurse. Some of the skills performed include:
- Administering IV fluids
- Administering certain IV medications after successful completion of certification class
- Venipuncture for blood collection
- Insertion of IV cannulas
- Physical assessment and collecting of information
- Rounding with physicians
- Directing staff in patient care
- Insertion of Foley catheters
- Dressing wounds and skin care
- Performing Quick Cults
Responsibilities
After orientation, the LPN demonstrates and maintains skills and knowledge pertinent to the practice and education of a Licensed Practical Nurse. Competence in caring for Acute Care patients is also demonstrated.
Requirements
Graduation from an accredited Practical Nurse Program and current licensure by the Alabama State Board of Nursing.
