GENERAL SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing or appropriate shift supervisor, the Graduate Practical Nurse / Licensed Practical Nurse administers medically prescribed treatment, coordinates nursing care, and monitors the performance of acceptable standards of nursing care on his/her assigned nursing unit. The Graduate Practical Nurse / Licensed Practical Nurse must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the residents served on his/her unit – adult through geriatric. The Graduate Practical Nurse / Licensed Practical Nurse must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. The Graduate Practical Nurse / Licensed Practical Nurse participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care. The Graduate Practical Nurse / Licensed Practical Nurse provides care needed as described in the Nursing Department's policies and procedures.

EDUCATION

Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Minimum of one (1) year of satisfactory experience in geriatric setting preferred.

SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be cleared by PA State Police criminal history check.
  • Possession of a current license as a Licensed Practical Nurse issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nurse Examiners required OR eligible for such licensure.
  • CPR Certification required or must be obtained and must be maintained.
  • Must maintain the standards of nursing care and implement the policies and procedures of the Nursing Department and Allied Services.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills required for effective interaction with staff, residents and visitors.
  • Good Management Skills Required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Heavy Work: duties require exerting 50-100 lbs. of force occasionally (approx 33-66% of the time), and/or 25-50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or 10-25 lbs. of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects.
  • Position requires ability to transport self throughout facility.

ACCIDENT OR HEALTH HAZARDS

  • Occasional exposure to blood and body substances.
  • Exposure to needle sticks possible.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Works in resident living areas.
