About the role

Join us as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Postpartum – Full Time at Flowers Hospital. This position is on the 2 South Postpartum Floor with 3x 12-hour shifts per week, 7 pm–7 am, rotating weekends. The unit is a 24-bed facility providing care exclusively for female patients, including postpartum mothers, gynecological, and plastic surgery patients. We practice couplet care for postpartum patients, allowing nurses to care for both mother and baby together to promote bonding, continuity of care, and improved patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under RN supervision: monitor vital signs, assist with activities of daily living, and respond to patient needs.
• Conduct focused patient assessments and report changes in condition to the appropriate team members.
• Administer medications, treatments, and injections as prescribed, ensuring compliance with the Nurse Practice Act and safety protocols.
• Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of patient care plans.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care, interventions, and observations.
• Educate patients and families on health maintenance, medication management, and post-discharge care.
• Ensure adherence to infection control protocols, safety standards, and healthcare regulations.
• Assist with basic procedures such as wound care, catheterization, and specimen collection within scope of practice.
• Participate in orientation and training of new staff or nursing students as assigned.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure coordinated care.
• Prepare and maintain equipment and supplies necessary for patient care.
• Respond to medical emergencies and support code team interventions within scope of competency.
• Assist with maternal vital sign monitoring and postpartum care.
• Provide newborn care including bathing, feeding support, and diaper changes.
• Administer prescribed medications to mothers and newborns within scope.
• Support breastfeeding education and routine screenings under RN direction.
• Assist with documentation and family education.

Qualifications

• 0–1 years of experience as an LPN in a healthcare setting required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Strong knowledge of nursing principles, medication administration, and patient care practices.
• Proficiency in patient assessment, monitoring, and documentation.
• Excellent communication skills for interactions with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
• Organizational and time management skills to handle multiple priorities.
• Knowledge of safety protocols, infection control measures, and regulatory requirements.
• Adaptability to changes in patient care needs and healthcare practices.

Licenses and Certifications

• LPN – Licensed Practical Nurse – State Licensure required or LVN – Licensed Vocational Nurse required.
• BCLS – Basic Life Support required.
• ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support preferred.
• State-specific requirements:
  • Alabama: ACLS, PALS, and CPI certifications required.
  • Florida: ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications required.
  • Georgia: ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications required within 90 days of employment.
  • Mississippi: ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications required; STABLE certification required within 6 months.
  • New Mexico: ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, and NIH Stroke Scale certifications required; STABLE certification required within 6 months.
  • North Carolina: ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications required.
  • Oklahoma: ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications required.
  • Pennsylvania: ACLS certification required.
