About the Role
Responsible for providing nursing care to patients in a professional and courteous manner. Performs a wide variety of patient care activities and accommodative services for patients under the direction of the manager or provider.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Current South Carolina license as a Licensed Practical Nurse
- Basic first aid knowledge and current CPR certification
Responsibilities
- Maintains a positive attitude and ensures harmonious relationships through professional communication with internal and external contacts.
- Demonstrates appropriate communication and responsiveness to patients and staff across all age groups (infant, child, adolescent, adult, geriatric).
- Performs duties as assigned by authorized personnel, including emergency response (e.g., fire or disaster).
- Communication:
- Manages phone systems (answering, transferring calls).
- Handles orders and messages via phone triage for physicians, patients, and staff.
- Scheduling:
- Coordinates referrals, appointments, ancillary services, surgeries (inpatient/outpatient), and hospital admissions.
- Medical Records:
- Manages documentation, forms, chart maintenance, filing (diagnostic reports, transcription, correspondence), image files, faxing, copying, and mail.
- Laboratory:
- Performs phlebotomy, specimen collection/processing, proficiency testing, and results reporting.
- Medication Management:
- Administers medications via intravenous infusion (per policy), subcutaneous, intramuscular, intradermal, oral, topical, suppository, sublingual, and inhalant routes.
- Manages storage, handling, ordering, and maintaining medication levels.
- Patient Care:
- Prepares and maintains exam rooms; conducts patient interviews; assists with minor procedures; triages patients (by phone or in person); implements physician orders; provides patient education; and reports results.
- Serves as a chaperone for patients as needed.
- Clinical Documentation:
- Operates and maintains general office equipment (fax, copier) and patient care equipment (BP monitors, thermometers, scales, etc.).
- Handles specialized equipment (X-ray, ultrasound, treadmill, laboratory equipment, defibrillators, Holter monitors, etc.).
- In-Service/Education:
- Maintains certification/licensure competency; completes department orientation and annual training.
- Manages log sheets/audits for samples, pharmacy, emergency equipment, oxygen, and instruments.
- Leadership:
- Provides support and guidance for clinical policies and procedures.
- Additional Duties:
- Handles precertification/authorization, coding (E&M/basic visits), office procedures, surgeries, hospital services, correspondence, statistical reports, accounts payable, and payroll.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
