About the role

HealthPartners is hiring for an LPN, Medical Assistant, or EMT to support the Coon Rapids Clinic.

Required qualifications

  • LPN position: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; current LPN licensure in Minnesota; current BLS certification for health professionals through the American Heart Association or Red Cross (online BLS certification is not acceptable); demonstrated verbal and written communication skills including appropriate use of English grammar and spelling; one year of LPN experience is preferred.
  • Medical Assistant/EMT position: High school diploma or GED; graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or graduate of an accredited EMT program with current EMT license; current BLS certification for health professionals through the American Heart Association or Red Cross (online BLS certification is not acceptable); demonstrated verbal and written communication skills including appropriate use of English grammar and spelling; current Medical Assistant Certification or Registration through AAMA or AMT is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • LPN responsibilities:
    • Identify common and recurring nursing needs of the patient.
    • Recognize the need for and perform routine office procedures and testing in the ambulatory care setting.
    • Assist patients to achieve basic health care goals.
    • Identify patient education needs, provide instruction, and refer appropriately.
    • Document observations, actions, and patient outcomes.
    • Provide safe, accurate, and clinically competent direct care to patients and families.
    • Recognize patient abnormalities or urgent problems and seek appropriate assistance.
    • Obtain health history information and accurate vital signs; recognize and report variances.
    • Teach techniques or provide information according to established programs.
    • Accurately and appropriately document procedures and treatment in each patient’s record.
    • Communicate information to other members of the health care team.
    • Provide the patient and family with current and accurate information regarding procedures and care.
    • Perform telephone screening under the direction of an RN or MD.
    • Assure patients’ rights to privacy, safety, and confidentiality.
    • Maintain current practice by obtaining continuing education in relevant practice areas.
    • Maintain CPR certification.
    • Serve as a catalyst in improving standards of LPN practice and as a role model for technical conduct and practice.
    • Provide support to professional and technical staff; solve problems appropriately, seeking assistance when needed.
    • Demonstrate positive interpersonal skills with patients and healthcare team members.
  • Medical Assistant/EMT responsibilities:
    • Room patients and complete vital signs and other pertinent physical measurements.
    • Administer medication and clinical procedures according to authorized policy and document according to HealthPartners policy (may include DISCUS or AIMS assessment).
    • Review charts for pertinent information relevant to the patient’s appointment (e.g., Prepared Practice work as developed by the team).
    • Provide and document requested health educational materials to the patient.
    • Handle patient records in a private and confidential manner per HealthPartners policy.
    • Seek medical and/or nursing assistance when encountering an acutely ill patient or a patient with a changing condition.
    • Prepare exam and treatment rooms and set up for procedures; assist the provider as needed.
    • Prepare the patient for medical interventions; prepare charts and records for appointments according to established practices.
    • Check MSRs for completion and route appropriately; prepare lab, x-ray, and miscellaneous forms as requested.
    • Process drug refills according to clinic protocols; monitor station logs as assigned.
    • Facilitate timely and accurate flow of communication within the clinic/location; accurately receive and relay messages and test results to the appropriate person/location.
    • Gather necessary information from callers and relay to the appropriate provider for follow-up.
    • Inform the reception desk of provider’s schedule status and assist in coordinating urgent and non-urgent schedule changes to meet patient and provider needs.
    • Perform patient correspondence when requested and assist patients in completing forms when appropriate.
    • Prepare and sterilize instruments and equipment according to procedure and OSHA standards; complete scheduled cleaning requirements for designated work areas.
    • Implement infection control procedures as needed and adhere to protective clothing requirements.
    • Ensure clinic supplies are adequately stocked and well organized; process and deliver department inventory requests in a timely manner.
    • Routinely check expiration dates and remove or replace outdated supplies; maintain prescription sample supply cabinet per clinic protocol.
    • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained, records are kept, inventory is current, and instruments and equipment are calibrated as needed and maintained in proper working order.
