LPN/Medical Assistant/EMT

Join our team at the Brooklyn Center clinic in Primary Care. This full-time position is eligible for a sign-on bonus.

Qualifications

For the LPN position:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current LPN licensure in Minnesota
  • Current BLS provider status in accordance with American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines (online BLS certification is not acceptable)
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including appropriate use of English grammar and spelling
  • One year of working experience as an LPN is preferred

For the Medical Assistant/EMT position:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program OR Graduate of an accredited EMT program and current EMT License
  • Current BLS provider status in accordance with American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines (online BLS certification is not acceptable)
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including appropriate use of English grammar and spelling
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification or Registration through AAMA or AMT is preferred

Responsibilities

For the LPN position:

  • Identify common and recurring nursing needs of the patient
  • Recognize the need for and perform routine office procedures and testing in the ambulatory care setting
  • Assist patients to achieve basic health care goals
  • Identify patient education needs, provide instruction, and refer appropriately
  • Document observations, actions, and patient outcomes
  • Provide safe, accurate, and clinically competent direct care to patients and families
  • Recognize patient’s abnormalities or urgent problems and seek appropriate assistance
  • Obtain health history information
  • Obtain accurate vital signs, recognize and report variances
  • Teach techniques or provide information according to established program
  • Accurately and appropriately document procedures and treatment in each patient’s record
  • Appropriately communicate information to other members of the health care team
  • Provide the patient and family with current and accurate information regarding the procedure and care
  • Perform telephone screening under direction of RN or MD
  • Assure patients’ rights to privacy, safety, and confidentiality
  • Maintain current practice by obtaining continuing education in relevant practice areas
  • Maintain CPR certification
  • Serve as a catalyst in improving standards of LPN practice
  • Serve as a role model for technical conduct and practice
  • Provide support to professional and technical staff
  • Solve problems appropriately, seeking assistance from members of the healthcare team
  • Effect positive response from patients and other members of the healthcare team through interpersonal skills

For the Medical Assistant/EMT position:

  • Room patients and complete vital signs and other pertinent physical measurements
  • Administer medication and clinical procedures according to authorized policy and document according to HealthPartners policy, including DISCUS or AIMS assessment
  • Review charts for the presence of pertinent information relevant to the patient’s appointment, including Prepared Practice work as developed by the team
  • Provide and document any needed and requested health educational materials to the patient
  • Handle patient and their records in a private and confidential manner per HealthPartners policy
  • Seek medical and/or nursing assistance when encountering an acutely ill patient or a patient with a changing condition
  • Prepare exam rooms and treatment rooms and set up for procedures
  • Assist provider as needed
  • Prepare the patient for medical interventions
  • Prepare charts and records for appointments as indicated by the type of clinic visit according to established practices
  • Check MSRs for completion and route appropriately
  • Prepare lab, x-ray, and miscellaneous forms as requested
  • Process drug refills according to clinic protocols
  • Monitor station logs as assigned
  • Facilitate timely and accurate flow of communication within the clinic/location
  • Accurately receive and relay messages and test results to the appropriate person/location in a manner consistent with clinic practices and/or standards
  • Gather all necessary and appropriate information from a caller and relay information to the appropriate provider for necessary follow-up
  • Inform reception desk of provider’s schedule status and assist in coordination of urgent and non-urgent provider schedule changes to ensure patient and provider needs are met
  • Perform patient correspondence when requested and assist patients in completing forms when appropriate
  • Prepare and sterilize instruments and equipment according to procedure and OSHA standards
  • Complete scheduled cleaning requirements for designated work areas and document completion of work to comply with infection control and OSHA standards
  • Implement other infection control procedures as needed and adhere to protective clothing requirements
  • Ensure clinic supplies are adequately stocked and well organized
  • Process and deliver department inventory requests in a timely manner
  • Routinely check expiration dates and remove or replace outdated supplies
  • Maintain prescription sample supply cabinet as per clinic protocol
  • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and adequate records are kept
  • Ensure inventory of instruments and equipment is current
  • Ensure instruments and equipment are calibrated as needed and maintained in proper working order

Skills

  • Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Speech, hearing, and sight skills to perform the functions of the position
  • Manual dexterity
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English
  • Proficiency in other languages may be required
  • Some positions may have lifting requirements
