Responsibilities
- Receives authorization for services, checking for special instructions.
- Pleasantly greets patients confirming their identification and introduces self.
- Prepares room, equipment, and materials as needed for patients.
- Prepares patient and explains procedures for treatment, phlebotomy, and EKG.
- Maintains necessary certifications for clinic skills and willing to learn new skills as needed/requested, such as vision and hearing testing, drug screen collection, breath alcohol testing.
- Able to administer intradermal and intramuscular injections after passing competencies.
- Answers telephone using proper telephone etiquette and relays messages in a timely manner.
- Greets and directs patients and clients and answers questions in a courteous and professional manner.
- Knowledge of the needs of patients according to their age group and the ability to modify care accordingly.
- Transports patient if necessary.
- Schedules testing, as necessary.
- Performs office procedures accurately in absence of clerical personnel.
- Performs all clerical functions when not performing technical procedures.
- Maintains stock supplies for assigned room or work area.
- Able to work flexible shifts in clinic and off-site at companies.
- Able to assist with clerical functions and special projects as requested by the coordinator/manager.
Requirements
- High School Graduate, or equivalent; Medical Assistant Certificate required.
- Previous Phlebotomy and EKG experience preferred.
- OR must be a graduate of an accredited program of practical nursing with current licensure in the state of Ohio.
- Maintains and upgrades own professional development and necessary certifications (CPR, CAT, BAT, etc.).
- Possess or be willing to obtain CAT (certified audiometric technician) and BAT (Breath Alcohol Technician) certification and keep each current every 5 years.
- All certifications will be completed at the need of the department.
- Must be currently certified in CPR, and maintain certification.
- Ability to operate EKG machines.
- Ability to perform blood pressure, pulse, respirations and temperature readings.
- Ability to perform chain of custody urine drug screens preferred.
- Must possess a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator's license and be insurable under Firelands' auto policy.
- Employee must provide proof of personal automobile liability insurance coverage upon request.
- Ability to work in a stressful environment and handle sensitive telephone and face-to-face inquiries.
- Ability to lift 75 pounds with assistance and be mobile.
