About the role
SRI is an international provider with over 37 years' experience in Federal, military, and commercial markets. We are seeking full-time Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to support the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Health Services Corps (IHSC) Detention Center Healthcare contract.
Description of Duties
Nurses provide care 24 hours a day, working as part of a comprehensive primary care team. They administer medications, perform treatments like wound care and electrocardiograms, collect lab specimens, and respond to emergencies. They also perform prescreening and intake screening, referring patients to other providers as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Administers medications as ordered, including oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous, topical, ophthalmic, and other enteral and parenteral routes.
- Carries out various treatments such as wound care, vital sign checks, electrocardiograms, and phlebotomy.
- Takes appropriate action on lab results received.
- Responds to medical emergencies and provides emergency care.
- Aids other health care professionals by gathering data, providing care, educating patients, and participating in involuntary care.
Required Education and Experience
- Graduate from a Vocational/Practical Nurse program approved by a State, DC, or US territory.
- Minimum of one year experience in a hospital, medical office, or outpatient clinical setting.
- Experience in a detention/correctional or residential healthcare setting preferred.
Required Licensure/Certification
- Maintain current, full, and unrestricted LVN/LPN license by the state in which the duty station is located.
- Maintain BLS for Healthcare Providers® certification through the American Heart Association.
- Certified Correctional Health Professional or Certified Corrections Nurse credential preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficiency in using equipment, materials, and supplies in diagnostic and treatment procedures.
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural and multi-lingual environment.
- Ability to utilize telephonic interpreter/translation services if not fluent in a language the patient understands.
- Flexibility in work requirements and ability to adapt to sudden changes in schedules.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and critical thinking skills.
- Cultural competency, integrity, and honesty.
- Verbal and written proficiency in Spanish (preferred).
Attributes and Professional Qualities
- Positive rapport with patients, co-workers, and other stakeholders.
- Knowledge of common Microsoft Office programs, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.
- Understanding of HIPAA/Privacy Act regulations and PII confidentiality.
Physical Demands
- Long periods of standing, walking, or jogging.
- Bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities.
- Lifting moderately heavy patients or equipment.
- Agility and dexterity, visual, and hearing capabilities.
- Ability to respond to medical emergencies within four minutes and perform CPR/emergency care standing or kneeling.
- Assist sick, injured, or aging detainees or staff during emergencies.
Security Requirements
- Preliminary Favorable Fitness Determination by the Department of Homeland Security’s Personnel Security Unit (PSU).
- Complete Favorable Fitness Determination upon completion of background investigations.
- U.S. Citizen, resided in the U.S. or its territories for three or more years out of the last five years.
