About the role
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a key member of the multidisciplinary treatment team, delivering compassionate nursing care to individuals recovering from substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. Under the supervision of an RN or clinical supervisor, the LPN assists with medical coordination, monitors patient health, administers medications, and ensures a safe and therapeutic environment that supports client recovery.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care and support under the direction of an RN or clinical supervisor.
- Conduct basic nursing assessments and promptly report significant findings to supervising staff.
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and facility protocols.
- Monitor vital signs, withdrawal symptoms, and patient stability; escalate concerns appropriately.
- Provide patient education and support as part of discharge planning.
- Collaborate with the treatment team to support individualized nursing care plans.
- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and contribute observations regarding patient progress.
- Serve as a supportive point of contact for patients and families within the LPN scope of practice.
- Assist in monitoring and maintaining medication inventory.
- Ensure safe storage, accurate documentation, and compliance with medication handling policies.
- Support MAR (Medication Administration Record) processes, including documentation and reconciliation.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the patient medical record in compliance with facility policies and state/federal regulations.
- Uphold infection control practices and safety standards.
- Support ongoing program compliance and regulatory readiness efforts.
- Help maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment within residential or detox units.
- Support crisis intervention and de-escalation efforts under the direction of RNs and clinical leadership.
- Assist with other duties or special projects that contribute to smooth clinical operations.
Requirements
- Active, unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of employment.
- Graduation from an accredited Practical Nursing program.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- 1–2 years of experience in behavioral health, SUD treatment, psychiatric care, or residential/inpatient healthcare.
- Experience working in a recovery-oriented, trauma-informed setting.
Qualifications
