Two blocks from Harrisburg’s famous Front Street lies the Penn State Health Medical Group – Harrisburg office that is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join its team. The office oversees several specialties including Newborn to Geriatric Family Practice, Obstetrics, Trauma-Psych Therapy, Infectious Disease, and Addiction Therapy.

About the role

The hired LPN will oversee rooming patients, taking vitals, and handling medicine reconciliation. Other responsibilities include phlebotomy, administering injections, conducting EKGs, and assisting with in-house procedures. Some clerical duties apply, such as making inbound/outbound phone calls and monitoring the e-message pool for patient inquiries. The role is primarily day shift (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM), full-time (1.0 FTE). The office accommodates parking beneath the building and is situated on a bus line.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct and individualized nursing care to an assigned group of patients under the direction of a registered nurse or physician according to the Pennsylvania Nurse Practice Act and established policies.
  • Observes, reports, and records medical information and nursing care in the medical record or electronic medical record.
  • Administers medications in accordance with policy and procedures.
  • Instructs patients and families according to the teaching plan overseen by a Registered Nurse or Physician.
  • Communicates with the healthcare team to facilitate coordination of individualized patient care.
  • Works with manager to ensure timely management of phone messages, e-messages, forms completion, etc., in congruence with organizational policy.
  • Improves and maintains professional knowledge and skills by attending in-service training, continuing education, and integrating new knowledge.
  • Participates in problem-solving, planning, and improvement of patient care activities, including assisting in research, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice activities.
  • Initiates appropriate measures in emergency situations.

Requirements

  • Currently licensed to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the state of employment or holds a multistate LPN license through the interstate Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required prior to completion of orientation.
