About the Role

The primary purpose of this position is to provide direct nursing care to residents and supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants. Supervision must align with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing the facility. You will work under the direction of the Director of Nursing Services or Nurse Supervisor to maintain the highest degree of quality care.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate nursing care to residents.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
• Accurately document resident care and communicate changes to the care team.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, therapists, and caregivers to ensure coordinated care.
• Create and maintain a safe, comfortable, and positive environment for residents.
• Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants in accordance with facility policies and regulations.
• Ensure compliance with facility policies, procedures, and job descriptions among assigned nursing staff.
• Review and update department policies, procedure manuals, and job descriptions as needed.
• Plan and coordinate shifts’ services, programs, and activities with nursing and support staff.
• Maintain and ensure adherence to the Nursing Service Procedures Manual.
• Submit written and oral reports regarding shift activities and recommendations.
• Coordinate with other resident services to maintain the resident’s total regimen of care.
• Participate in the facility’s quality assurance program for the nursing service department.
• Assist in facility surveys and inspections by authorized government agencies.
• Review and update residents’ written discharge plans as required.
• Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as needed.
• Complete accident/incident reports and maintain the Daily Census Report.
• Perform administrative duties, including completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, and charting.
• Ensure confidentiality of resident and facility information, including protected health information (PHI).
• Complete and file required recordkeeping forms/charts for resident admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Encourage and facilitate physician reviews of treatment plans, orders, and progress notes.
• Transcribe physician orders to resident charts, care plans, and medication records.
• Chart nurses’ notes in an informative and descriptive manner reflecting care provided and resident responses.
• Prepare and administer medications as ordered by physicians, ensuring proper resident identification.
• Maintain accurate narcotic records and report discrepancies to the Nurse Supervisor.
• Review medication cards for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to stop-order policies.
• Dispose of drugs and narcotics in accordance with established procedures.
• Participate in employee performance evaluations and make staffing recommendations.
• Inform the Nurse Supervisor of staffing needs, absences, and personnel issues.
• Develop work assignments and provide leadership to nursing personnel on your unit/shift.
• Conduct daily rounds to ensure nursing staff perform duties according to standards.
• Ensure nursing assistants are enrolled in or have graduated from an approved training program.
• Meet regularly with nursing staff to address and correct problem areas or improve services.
• Maintain a positive and calm environment for residents, staff, and visitors.
• Review and address complaints or grievances from assigned personnel.
• Administer disciplinary action fairly and without bias.
• Receive and give nursing reports at the start and end of shifts.
• Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, or hazardous materials per facility policies.
• Inform nursing staff of new admissions, room assignments, and resident arrivals.
• Participate in the orientation of new residents and their family members.
• Make rounds with physicians and arrange for diagnostic or therapeutic services as ordered.
• Consult with physicians regarding resident care, treatment, and rehabilitation.
• Implement and maintain established nursing objectives and standards.
• Perform periodic checks to ensure prescribed treatments are administered properly.
• Cooperate with social and activity programs to align with nursing service schedules.
• Notify attending physicians and next-of-kin of changes in resident condition or accidents/incidents.
• Carry out restorative and rehabilitative programs, including self-help and care.
• Inspect nursing service treatment areas daily to ensure cleanliness and safety.
• Administer professional services such as catheterization and other treatments as required.

Requirements

• Active South Carolina LPN License.
• Current CPR Certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Compassionate and committed to providing exceptional resident care.

Pay

$31.00–$35.00/hour, with shift differentials:

• Saturday & Sunday Days: +$2.00/hour.
