About the role
Southern WV Health System is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse / Medical Assistant who wants to contribute positively to a supportive workplace. The position offers competitive pay, comprehensive benefits, and a 403(b) retirement plan with a 3% employer match.
Responsibilities
- Screens patients (height, weight, vital signs, history of problem, etc.) and prepares patients to see the provider.
- Prepares exam rooms for occupancy and assists with the flow of patients to facilitate the processing of each patient.
- Provides basic screening procedures including, but not limited to EKG, audiometry, visual screening, hydroculator, nebulizer treatment, Holter monitor and FAPS.
- Assists the provider with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including Paps, Colposcopy, Cryosurgery, LEEPS minor surgeries, etc., as directed by the supervisor or provider.
- Instructs the patient in certain aspects of health care as directed by the supervisor or provider.
- Responds to patient telephone inquiries, giving factual information according to the nature of the question; secures for the patient information about illness and health problems and reports accurately to the provider.
- Centralized scheduling handles patient scheduling, referrals, medical records filing, faxing, calling in prescriptions, and other duties as needed.
- Maintains effective communication with patient, families, and staff.
- Maintains, as directed, the supplies, medications and equipment used.
- Carries out the physician’s orders as directed.
- Administers medications under the direct supervision of the physician.
- Aids in emergencies (lacerations, patients with MIs, etc.).
- Records and completes the patient charts as directed by the physicians.
- Aids in the compilation of various statistical reports as required by the administration.
- Schedules referral appointments and assists in obtaining records and reports from consultations and referrals.
- Operates normal office equipment such as computers, fax machines and copiers as needed.
- Projects a professional image to the public.
- Fulfills all policies and procedures in dealing with clients.
- Supports and helps in the training of new employees.
- Attends inservice trainings and mandated meetings as assigned.
- Aids in maintaining the patient files and medical records.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to perform Essentials Duties as outlined above.
- Graduate from a Licensed Practical Nurse Program or Certified Medical Assistant program.
- Holds a current unincumbered LPN License or a CMA certification.
- Possesses working knowledge of computers.
- Ability to comply with safety procedures.
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language.
