LPN/CMA

About the Role

Southern WV Health System is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to support the delivery of direct patient care and communication with patients. This role involves providing patient education, health maintenance, disease management instructions, and assisting with follow-up care under clinical supervision. Travel to other sites may be required for "float" positions or to support operational needs. Work schedules may vary based on operational needs and may include extended hours, Saturdays, and designated holidays.

Responsibilities

• Respond to patient telephone inquiries and provide information as directed.
• Ensure timely communication of provider-reviewed test results and coordinate follow-up care.
• Instruct patients on health care information as directed by the provider.
• Assist in processing patient cases and related tasks under provider guidance.
• Record and complete patient chart documentation accurately.
• Retrieve records and reports from consults and referrals.
• Maintain effective and compassionate communication with patients, families, and staff.
• Operate standard office equipment, including computers, fax machines, and copiers.
• Assist visitors by directing or connecting them with appropriate personnel.
• Project a professional image and adhere to all organizational policies.
• Confirm and schedule patient appointments.
• Complete patient rooming and assessment activities, including vital signs, medication reconciliations, and health history updates.
• Assist with quality measures, reporting requirements, and organizational performance initiatives.
• Assist providers during examinations and procedures.
• Administer medications, immunizations, and injections as ordered and within scope of practice.
• Perform EKGs, screenings, and other diagnostic procedures as ordered.
• Perform point-of-care testing and collect specimens for laboratory testing.
• Submit documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
• Monitor clinical supplies, medications, vaccines, and patient care materials for inventory and expiration.
• Clean, disinfect, and prepare examination rooms and equipment according to infection prevention standards.
• Maintain clinical controls and quality assurance activities, including refrigerator temperatures, autoclave spore testing, and crash cart/AED checks.
• Perform weekly checks of all medications.
• Support and assist in the training of new employees.
• Attend required in-service trainings and meetings.
• Collaborate as a member of the patient care team.
• Maintain practice within the appropriate scope of licensure/certification.
• Safeguard patient privacy and maintain confidentiality of medical records and information.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

If assigned to a school-based clinic, additional responsibilities include:

• Register patients.
• Distribute, explain, obtain, verify, and process patient consent forms and other required documentation.
• Ensure the safety, health, and well-being of patients while in the clinic.

Requirements

• Graduate from a Licensed Practical Nurse Program or Certified Medical Assistant program.
• Current unencumbered LPN License or CMA certification.
• Basic computer literacy.
• Ability to comply with safety protocols and communicate effectively in English.
