The Medicine Preoperative Assessment Clinic (MPAC) optimizes patients for surgery by assessing medical risks, evaluating chronic health conditions, modifying medications, and performing appropriate tests to minimize complications during and after surgery.

About the role

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) on this team, you will assist fellow caregivers in delivering exceptional, top-quality care to a diverse patient population. This role allows you to make a lasting difference in patients' lives while enhancing your nursing skills through hands-on experience and educational resources within the Cleveland Clinic system.

Schedule: Days, 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional nursing care to patients.
  • Administer medication.
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation in medical records and files.
  • Complete authorization forms and laboratory requisitions.
  • Implement pain management assessments and documentation.
  • Recognize changes in patients' status and report pertinent information to Charge Nurse or Physicians.
  • Educate patients, families, and others.
  • Adhere to the National Patient Safety Goals as outlined by JCAHO.
  • Follow Code Blue protocol.
  • Assess, plan, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate patient progress in conjunction with the R.N. or physician.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Practical or Vocational Nursing Program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
  • Current Florida licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
  • Experience with technology and computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of infection control practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of experience in an acute care setting.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent walking, sitting, and standing.
  • Frequent talking and listening when giving instructions and explanations.
  • Frequent use of the phone and fax machines; occasional use of the computer.
  • Constant lifting and moving of patients, carrying equipment, supplies, and materials up to 50 pounds without help and over 50 pounds with assistance from mechanical devices or other personnel.
  • Stooping, pushing, and pulling when positioning patients for treatment.
  • Reaching, handling, feeling, and manipulating equipment into position.

Working Conditions

  • Majority of time spent indoors in air-conditioned areas.
  • Significant potential for exposure to blood and blood-borne pathogens, requiring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, masks, gowns, and goggles.
  • Follows Standard Precautions using PPE as required for procedures.
